My dr approved  me to be off for only 2.5 weeks . I do have  sit down desk job but i wanted something more like 4 weeks lol. When i go to my 2 week f/u after surgery what do i need to tell him so i can get more time off work. I do not want to go back to work tired and sluggish.

I was off for almost a month, but my job isn't a sit-down job.  And those first few days I did shorter days.  Everyone heals at different rates.  Some people on here were ready to go back in a week, some (like me) needed longer.  However much time you originally take off, if you need more - take it.  You won't do yourself or work or anyone any good if you overdo it.  I recommend trying to do some half-days when you first go back to ease back into it.  That was good for me.

Best wishes on your surgery and recovery!!

Tell the doctor you are nauseous, tire quickly, are having problems getting enough liquids and protein. Tell him you feel unprepared to return to work and ask him for a note giving you additional time off to recover.

The doctor should agree to the request.

My doctor asked me how much time I wanted off since I know my recovery better than anyone else would.

Good luck,
George

I just had this discussion with my doctor on 9/26.  I am having a lot of problems with water and protein quantities.  My doctor says because my stomach/sleeve is still swollen.  He had no problem with me taking another week off work.  Hopefully your doctor will be as accommodating.  Good luck with your surgery.

Best of luck with life!

Hello Surgery Sista, I am one day ahead of you on the 3rd of October.  I am a RN and I have a very demanding and physical job in the ER/ICU, I rotate between ER and ICU on 12 hour shifts and my doctor only was going to give me 3 weeks off. I told him that I was allowed up to 6 weeks off for FMLA and he said well, you won't need it.  I told him that I may not need it physically, I certainly needed it mentally.  That worked, his secretary re-wrote my letter allowing for the 6 weeks off. Good luck with surgery and your time off.  I will try and post after I get out of the OR on Monday and let you know how much of a breeze it was!! LOL Talk to you soon.    Jeannie
