Anyone sleeved over 3 months and not lost hair? How much protein are you eating?
I am asking because I was looking at Dr Oz yesterday and he recommended increasing protein to those experiencing hair loss. I was just wondering if upping my protein would help slow or stop it. My surgeon recommends 60 grams per day, but I usually try to get at least 80 if I can. If increasing it to like 100 grams would help, I will do it. Just wondering what everyone elses experience was first. Thanks for any input.
Nothing is going to stop it. I know plenty of women on here and another forum who got in over the recommended protein counts and they lost more hair than I did and I didn't even get close to the protein counts until I was 6-8 weeks out.
Scientifically, it's been proven that even biotin doesn't help with regrowth. It's temporary, hair grows back. I lost half of my hair by volume, by around 18 months out, it was pretty much back to it's pre-op fullness.

Also, make sure you take a good quality vitamin, eat within your guidelines, stay hydrated, and have your labs monitored.

I was told by my nut that everyone will lose hair after WLS. It's not about the protein but because your body goes through a shock with the surgery. Soon your hair will grow back. It shouldn't be a massive amount. You should notice a little more out in the shower and your hairbrush. If this problem occurs over a year post-op then she said it could be dietary.
That's what was explained to me...

If it's going to happen, extra protein over and above what you need will not stop it- it is from the shock of the surgery, and the shock of rapid weight loss from reduced caloric intake. I lost tons when I lost a lot of weight w/o surgery years ago, and am currently losing again now.
Something to note, ye**** your protein goals.. keep in mind, excess protein over what you need is not useful, but you don't want to be short for long periods. 70g a day is average for most women, more if weight lifting or athletic.. and more for men obviously. Later hair loss (not the loss that starts at 3-5mo out during rapid weight loss) is associated with low protein levels.. so if a year out you note all of a sudden your hair is thinning, time for labs!
