I know it's only a number, but...

I know sizes, lbs., etc, are only numbers.  However, I bought a couple of Just My Size tops in 2X.  When I tried one of the tops on yesterday, it was still too small.  OK, I can accept that.  But, when I was looking for the material content, I found that their 2X is an 18/20, not 22/24 like most 2X's.  Why can't women's clothing sizes be more uniform like men's are?  It brought me back to when I was trying on wedding gowns many years ago.  The size clothing I took at that time was smaller than the largest size gowns in the store, but when I tried the largest size gown on, it was way too small.  I left that store and cried my eyes out.  One wants to look beautiful on her wedding day, and all I felt was I'm too fat, fat, fat!!!  A couple months later, I waent shopping with a friend who was getting married 2 weeks after me, for her dress.  She was a size 8, and she tried on a size 14 wedding dress and it just fit.  I realized then that wedding gowns run really small.  Anyway, I won't rant anymore.  At least I'll have 2 new tops to wear down the road.

I share your frustration. I'm 250 pounds right now, and fit into a 22/24 size top from Lane Bryant. However, I go to a store like Hot Topic and get a plain old t-shirt, and it's a size XL. Can't figure it out. Keep pushing on, it feels so amazing to fit into each new size of clothes! :)

It does feel amazing!  The size 20 pants I just bought (down from size 24) are already feeling a little loose.  I guess too that, with the tops being an 18/20, not 22/24 I can look at it in a positive way that they don't fit because they are actually smaller than what I thought.
