so the day is almost here... thursday starts pureed foods!  (also my 3 week surgiversary).  so i'm terrified of trying things and them not agreeing with me, so figured i'd ask everyone what they started with?  my NUT allows: pureed chicken, tuna, egg with low fat mayo, cream of wheat, lf/ff soft cheeses, beans, etc...

would love to hear what worked for you and what didn't.  already checked out eggface's blog about pureeds and plan making ricotta bake and refriend beans with cheese.  not sure if that's what i should start with though.

thanks guys!

Honestly I had mostly soups (about 80% of the time) . I didn't have a "pureed" stage specifically, just from liquids to mushy/as tolerated and blended some of the soups depending on if it was soft or not, but most of what I had was soft soup anyway. My faves are tomato soup with a little sour cream or laughing cow wedge mixed in, or sometimes just some cheese on top, lentil soup with lemon squeezed in, vietnemese soup, mexican soups like Albondigas or chicken, but albondigas broth tasted the best.(also with lemon squeezed in, I love lemon) Chicken & green chili soup from Chilis was delish. I did make eggfaces ricotta and it was good but you get so little and it was a little heavy for the tum. I like beans too from taco bell but only had them once. For some reason having soup makes me feel like I am "eating more" even though it's mostly broth. The beans are delish but again, just a couple tiny bites and your done. I still mostly eat soup.

Thanks Diana!  On full liquids i'm allowed low fat cream soups strained, so I've been eating strained tomato, cream of chicken, and just tonight tried broccoli and cheese strained.  I was not able to tolerate the split pea broth and have also been straining campbells chicken noodle/chicken and stars, etc... for the broth.  it's thicker than just the regular bouillion cubes so fills me up a little more.

I'll have to try the laughing cow wedge in the tomato, sounds delicious!  Do you melt it in while you're heating the soup?

I ate a lot of ricotta bake, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, FF refried beens with cheese and greek yogurt. And scrambled egg. I only managed about 2 oz the first week of pureed , then about 2.5 oz total, which is still about all I can do. Supplemented with protein shakes

Thanks for the response!  I am excited about the egg, but so nervous!  Thinking I'll start with cottage cheese or cream of wheat due to textures.  Hoping it'll go down easy!  I'm still trying to get used to the fact that I can only eat 2 oz. at a time!  Thank goodness for my food scale, because with the liquids/soups it's easy to eat more than that for me if i take my time.

I had my surgery the same day as you.  I know this my sound gross, but I puree in my mouth.  I simply take a piece of chicken, shrimp, beef and chew, chew, chew until liquidified then I swallow.  The only thing I had a problem with was a crab cake (plan says I can have crab meat) so I tried a jumbo lump crab cake that was about 98% crab meat.  The first 2 bites were okay but felt like it was stuck for awhile, about 3 hrs later I tried another couple of bites, but this time I layed down about 10 minutes after and it got sick (vomit).  I will never try that again.  But overall I have not had any problems with any food, chicken salad, tuna salad, egg w/ ff cheese.  Just chew really good and eat slowly.  But remember everyone's stomach is different

The first thing I had was yogurt, thinned out with a little milk.  I had to do a couple of days of runny stuff like that.

But once I was onto "real" purees, I tried greek yogurt mixed with sugar free fat free jello cheesecake pudding mix, and a little milk to thin.  So yummy.

Here are a few of the things I've had (everything goes through the food processor before I eat it):

- Chili with no beans (from campbells) because beans add lots of carbs and volume

- 2 oz tuna mixed with 1 Tbs mayo and 2 Tbs roasted red pepper hummus, salt and pepper to taste

- 2 oz grilled chicken breast mixed with 2 Tbs barbeque sauce, 1 Tbs shredded cheddar and a little broth to help thin it - then heated a bit

- 2 oz grilled chicken breast mixed with 2 Tbs salsa (the cooked kind), 1 Tbs shredded Mexican cheese, a little broth to thin it - then heated a bit.

mmmm... the chicken recipes sound so good!
i had my first puree!!! (i have been allowed yogurt/pudding so not counting that really).

Beechnut Stage 1 homestyle turkey and broth.

And guess what?  It was freaking delicous. lol.   How sad is it that I am happy about eating baby food!?

I am going to try either the ricotta with spaghetti sauce or the ff refried beans i bought today for dinner tonight.

Tomorrow I am cooking chicken in the crockpot with philadelphia cooking creme (same brand as the cream cheese but it's for cooking).  Then will puree.  Soooo excited about that!
