hernia question
Did anyone here have a hiatal hernia that was repaired during your VSG surgery?
I totally forgot to ask my surgeon if he'd do that for me. The nurse said a definate NO they do not do anything extra at the time of surgery.. but the nurses also told me they wouldn't do a VSG either and I am getting one so :P
I'm just not entirely sure what to do now, cuz if I call the clinic I will only be able to speak with a nurse likely and I will prob get a no. I thought of waiting til the morning of the surgery and asking him when I see him but then I thought they may need to schedule more time in order to do that and I don't want to inconvenience or irk my surgeon if you know what I mean? LOL

My surgeon already told me that if I have a hiatal hernia it will be repaired during the VSG surgery. I'm Kaiser, so it'll be covered.
During my good friend's RnY procedure several years ago her surgeon repaired a hiatal hernia and my friends insurance did not want to pay for the procedure, stating that it wasn't pre-approved. The surgeon actually did the appeal citing that by fixing the hernia during the RnY he actually saved the company money - basically the two for the price of one argument. It worked. Insurance footed the bill for the hernia repair.
I wouldn't worry, but it wouldn't hurt to ask the surgeon yourself.

Thanks guys that all sounds reassuring. Perhaps I'll just mention it before hand then. I still have to see the anesthesioligist so I was thinking maybe on that drive down I'll leave an enevelope for the surgeon at the next door clinic with a brief message about it. Just a heads up thing.
