My Doc said to cut caffeine out for the rest of my life.

That said, I'm not making any promises, but I haven't had a single cup since 3 days before surgery.

I was told to hold off coffee the first weeks due to possible dehydration. BUT if I was doing good with liquids, then I can have a small amount of coffee. I am not a crazy coffee lover, but it is getting very cold out here, so I had some the other day with creamer. no issues. I don't see why creamer would be a problem, i drink other dairy things- so i didn't see an issue.

Have some, just make sure to have plenty of liquids today.

You can have decaf coffee. But you might find you don't like it as much as you used to.

I drink 1/2 cup of decaf most mornings. (Used to drink 2 cups.) I use creamer, either the powdered or the flavored liquid.

You should not have reguar coffee, especially only 1 week after surgery, because caffeine is a stomach irritant.

If you are still on clear liquids you can't have creamer.

My plan said no caffeine for the first month.

See what your doc says when he calls back.

I was totally allowed to have coffee as soon as I was able to get my 64oz of clear fluids without issue.

If it's caffeinated, it doesn't count as clear so I was allowed 8oz of coffee with creamer and splenda or any other sweetener of my choice as long as I could get in clear fluid requirement.

And, can you add a little milk to it instead of the creamer, or if you're on full liquids or can have protein drinks mixed with milk, the creamer shouldn't be an issue.

My Phase 2 diet book, which was full liquids, said coffee and tea, though in pre-op NUT class, we were told no caffeine.  I did a blend of decaf and SF hot chocolate after the first few days, without issue.  Caffeine was okayed at my 2 week post-op.  I count the coffee as part of my fluids, but I generally drink more than 64 oz.
