Anesthesia??
Has anyone ever had problems with anestesia, during the surgery!! Guess I am just getting so close to surgery that I am worrying! I have heard of ppl still feeling & hearing things during! That would drive me insane!! Have you ever heard of this? Or did I imagine hearing this?? lol!! Even tho I am nervous, I am also very excited!! :)
I have heard the same things, and I had a little bit of a fear that I would be one of those crazy cases who would be like that!
In reality, I remember the anesthesiologist telling me he was giving the medicine to calm me down before he gave me the anesthesia and that was it! I didn't even make it to the anesthesia or the counting backwards part! LOL Next thing I knew I was in recovery, where I'm pretty sure I didn't even really open my eyes, but I remember telling them "I hurt" and "I feel sick." I also vaguely remember being wheeled up to my room and little snippits of conversation through the day, but I wasn't really lucid until about 8pm and my surgery was at 8am!

lol. you heard that from a movie that came out a few years ago.........that is some thing extremely rare. and like the other comment they monitor your stats and if they see any spike then they adjust the meds. remember this is surgery and there are always risks. But for me I think the risk of being over weight for out weighs the risk of this surgery.
p.s. I heard the biggest risk after surgery is having to shop for new clothes because all the old ones are going to be too big..........................lol
Good luck on your journey

Yes there are always risks with anesthesia however we undergo many pre-surgery clearances (cardiac, endoscopy, sleep study etc) to insure (and assure) us and the surgeon that we can successfully undergo this procedure and expect a good outcome.
It is rare for those "scary movie" complications to occur, thankfully, and if a compication does occur the anesthesiologist and entire OR team is prepared for it. But again, it is very rare.
As an RN I have to tell myself I chose a wondeful surgeon and also have cleared all the pre-testing with flying colors. That being said, sure I'm nervous and I'll want the pre-surgery calming medicine too :)

OK I'm one of those people that have awakened during surgery but believe me they noticed right away and I was back off to lala land asap. I make a point of telling my anesthesiologist that I have had the situation and to watch for my eyeballs to move cause then I'm awake and they probably don't want my help! Even when I woke up I didn't feel any pain just kinda looked around for a second or two then back to zzzzzzzz. Let them know you are concerned about it and they can reassure you.
I have only had one surgery in my life (tonsils out at age 4). I woke up during that surgery. I was only four years old but I have sounds and an image BURNED into my memory because it was so scary.
I remember waking up and seeing two masked faces looking down at me and I blinked and I remember someone saying.....He's waking up! He's waking up! The next thing I knew there was a mask placed over my face and the next time I woke up I was in recovery.
I never felt any pain (of course that was just tonsil surgery and not major abdominal surgery) but the images and sounds really got a permanent place in my psyche since 1982.
This surgery will be my second surgery that will require general full anesthesia. I'm going to tell the doctor about that experience and hope that they have better drugs/equipment now so it won't happen again! :)
I hope I didn't worry you, but these things do happen. Just share your concern with the anesthesiologist when he comes to interview you. They know what they are doing. Also the above posters are quite correct. They monitor your breathing and heart rate and those will both JUMP if you can feel pain. It is an involuntary response. If they notice that, they will know something is wrong and will do all they can to correct it.
