what a change!!!!!
I started my journey over a year ago with wanting the sleeve, but, my insurance did not cover it. I was approved for bypass, turned it down, waited about 9 months and started back over cause I knew I had to do something...found out I had obstructive sleep apnea and apparently this is a concern alone but they also said i had 673 episodes where my i would have muscle spasms in my legs from lack of oxygen. i was approved to get the bypass,,gone through all the steps..even have a surgery date in less than 2 weekls...then yesterday I find out myu insurance as of last month, now covers the sleeve!!!!! I i,,ediately called my doc who got on the phone with the insurance and confirmed they are veriying the coverage and they did...and the called back gavce them th code and done! My date is the same and all!!! I am SOOOOOS excited about this!!! just had to share my excitement wih someone who can understand how i feel!!!!
I REALLY relate to you. I had done a bunch of my pre-op stuff, then let it slide because I just wasn't up to a fight with the insurance company - I knew I'd be denied, and I planned to appeal. I got depressed over the whole thing. My therapist suggested I get back to looking into the appeal process, and when I checked the insurance website, they had started paying for the VSG that same month. I literally jumped up and down and screamed, then called everybody I knew that knew how badly I wanted this. Then I called the surgeon's office and said "Let's GO" You will be so happy with your decision.
Thanks sooo much for all your support!! I can not even begin to say how excited I am. I felt like a little kid on Christmas when they called and told me yesterday that my insurance approved it and they already changed the code and all is good. I was jumping up and down at work LOL. I feel like everything happens for a reason and I would have bene so dissapointed if I had done the surgery last year and found I could have done this! Well worth the wait!!

Amber, I have a similar story. I got through everything just to realize I misunderstood my insurance's coverage of VSG. So my choices were a band or RNY. I reconsidered both and decided they just weren't for me and that I'd wait until VSG (or some other better surgery) became available to me.
My dh and I are in open enrollment now and we have three insurance options to choose from that will cover the VSG for me. I'm so excited! I'll be able to pick up where I left off in January and submit for pre-approval then.
