The night before the start of my pre-op liquid diet, my nutritionist said...go out and have the meal of your dreams...so we did.

I had prime rib, steamed vegetables, baked potato and fresh bread.  It was so yummy.  A wonderful goodbye to all other foods in that quantity.

We took our time, talked a lot and I enjoyed each bite.

The nice thing is, I can enjoy that stuff again...now I just eat a bite or two of prime rib, a bite or two of baked potato and vegetables...and I don't miss the bread at all.

I had a few food funerals! Wanted to make sure that corpse stayed good and buried. The last one was at a restaurant to which I've always wanted to go and never been. I treated my two best friends, one is in preop now. And oddly, the food was not as good as I thought it would be. I was worried about the expense, and I think mentally I had started moving on. I'm learning that when your mind and body aren't working together, nothing works right.

But in the last few preop days, I did as many fun things as I could think of, to help me relax. Four of us girls went to a pumpkin patch for a hayride! I got the best pedi I've ever had. I think little things like that help a lot.

My last big meal will be Thanksgiving Dinner...I start my pre-op diet that saturday after so I am just going to cook all my holiday favorites and that should carry me through Christmas!  I am sooo looking forward to losing weight that it isn't bothering me that much.  With all the new pictures and update posts I am staying inspired!

I worked very hard in the 3 months pre-op to lose 19 pounds and develop some healthy habits, so I didn't have an extended period of food funeraling, but I did say goodbye to a few old favorites the weekend before surgery.

I visited our awesome local pizzeria and enjoyed wings, pizza and a chocolate chip cookie concoction with ice cream melting on top.  Some time in the future I'll probably go back and have one or two wings, a few bites of pizza, and a few bites of pizzookie (it's served family style).  It makes me happy that I will still be able to enjoy Oreganos, just a few bites at a time.

I think I also had a Cheesecake Factory meal with cheesecake, which after eating healthy for 3 months was way too sweet and made me feel sick.  I don't think I could eat it at all now.

My advice is to avoid the extended food funeraling, because, although weight is easier to lose after your sleeve, you really don't want to have to lose any more than necessary.  But, it doesn't hurt to have a few fun meals pre-op.  Moderation is key both pre- and post-op.  Enjoy!
