Swollen glands--surgery on Monday!!
I finally figured out that I didn't break out with pimples the other day on my left cheek on my face...but that it's a circle of spider bites. I react badly to spider bites and now my glands under my left ear, jaw and also down my neck are all swollen. Is this going to stop my 7:30am surgery on Monday?? Of course this happened on a weekend, and I have to leave at 4:15am to get to my hospital for surgery on Monday! I'm assuming they will just tell me it's fine or not when I get there.
Anyone out there have something like this happen? (So bizarre, I know.) Or have suggestions? It's quite painful, but I can't take ibuprofen or anything. No temperature; so, I assume there's no infection of any kind. I would take that as a good sign for surgery! :D

I'm not so sure... My mom was once scheduled to have back surgery and she was admitted to the hospital, had an IV started, the whole thing. When the doc came in to see her before they took her into the OR, he noticed two small bumps on her hand and asked about them. She said she wasn't sure what they were, and he said they looked like a spider bite, and he cancelled her surgery & sent her home. She had the surgery a few weeks later.
If you have swollen glands [lymphatics] then that usually indicates lymphocytes, ---white blood cells, etc., thus you have infection. I have seen cellulitis on the face before, and that could certainly happen from bites. Nevertheless, you probably need antibiotics. Some surgeons choose to start and IV antibiotic pre-op then proceed, others don't. Good luck.
I was going to add that swollen glands does indeed indicate infection. But doesn't nessecarily mean it's a bad one. When I get a minor coldsore even whichever side it's on ends up having a swollen gland. Not sure what will happen, hopefully you will be good to go, but if not I don't imagine them putting it off for too long. Keep us updated.
