according to my clinic for 13 days post op I am on clear fluids only. So it got me thinking ..even if I were to mix my protein pwdr with water it's not going to be a clear fluid. So now I'm wonderin if I can use them then.

Protein shakes aren't clear (see through liquids) so I couldn't have them.
I could have broth, sugar free jello etc.

Well I have one that is flavourless and colourless I wonder if it's clean when mixed. Guess I'll just really have to try and get my protien in.. I just think it's going to be really hard to as most clear fluids don't have much protien other than broth.

My doctor still considered them clear since they were water based.  As long as they were not milk based.  I would consult your doctor as all of them are different but it's going to be hard to get in your protein otherwise!

Well that's the thing I am with Guelph and they do NOT allow protein powders. They want you to get it all from food and I understand their reasoning as to not get dependent on it for the rest of your life, but I think for those first few weeks it's going to be so hard to get my protein in, plus we can't have any vitamins til 3 mos out and I just think my poor body is going to be so lagging, and I'll be playing catchup for some time.

I know everyone says follow your clinics instructions but on this one I just am finding it really hard. Plus I have friends that went to diff clinics and they were allowed to with no complications so I know it's possible.

That depends on the doctor. My doctor wants his patients to start on protein shakes the day after surgery, even though they're on clear liquids. You need to ask your doctor what he/she wants.

Hey every one so i went ahead with the RNY just got home today march 31, 2012 after 2 days in the hospital and it went really well better than i thought and i was scared, lol yeah all the way to the table of the operating room lol but one glitch in the being i started having low blood sugar spells at 34 years of age i was told that if i lost the weight i could normalize it and if i needed help i could have the surgery cause if i didn't i was bound to become type 2 diabetic , they called it reactive hypoglycaemia or better know as insulin resistance cause both my grandfather and mother were type 2 diabetics well into there 40's , so my question is i am 2 days post op on liquid diet and i am already having low blood sugar is this normal ? does this happen until you lose some weight ? or until i can incorporate some carbs and protein ? also i was given half cup broth, sugar free jello, half a cup decaffeinated tea and a half a cup of apple juice or cranberry juice i thought they weren't to give sugar they didn't dilute it either , shouldn't i have no sugars at all ?
