Every heard the VSG called this??
When I went for my PATS this morning the admin nurse had me written down as having a
gastric bypass with a sleeve. This was the form from the doctor himself. I was taken aback a bit cuz at first I thought oh no.. he's changed his mind in saying I could have it or he's made a mistake.
I guess I won't really know til the morning of when I see him and verify it's the VSG. It has me a bit worried though.

what if they mean a DS? That's a sleeve with a bypass component to it... Completely different surgery though and very complicated. Definitely not "gastric bypass with a sleeve." Some of these medical staff concern me. They are NOT planning to do a sleeve on you. They are planning on doing a Duodenal Switch.
I would run as fast as I could from that surgeon. This is NOT a sleeve, it is literally what they are telling you it is, a gastric bypass with a sleeve, and it is fraught with significant complications.
ANY bypass has severe long term problems. Look it up on Google, just type in the subject line: Problems with the Duodenal Switch, or Problems with the Gastric Bypass
You will learn, from a LOT of surgeons, just what the long term problems are with those types of surgery.
Expect a few of the DS patients to come on and tell you how wonderful it is. Keep in mind that at least 2 of them are being paid by a DS surgeon to recruit patients.

Old Medic, you're an ignorant ass.
Firstly, 'gastric' refers to the stomach. There is no 'gastric' bypass in the DS---the 'gastric' portion of a DS is a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. The DS ALSO has an 'intestinal' bypass.
Secondly, a DS is VERY had to come by in Canada. The OP would NOT be getting one just on a surgeon's whim. She'd have to fight for it.
Thirdly, there are no DSers being paid to recruit patients

Old Medic is right. Run and run fast!!. Do not sign that form. That gives the surgeon YOUR permission to do what he wants to do. That form should say VERTICAL SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY only. Be very careful or you may end up with something that you didn't want in the first place and endless complications. Best of luck to you.

This is definitely the time to be very, very proactive about being assured and reassured and re-reassured that they're not going to touch your intestines.
