Roux-en-y or Sleeve
I don't mean to incite an argument in the least. I respect everyone's choice in the WLS they had--like you said different strokes for different folks. But I disagree that consuming 1800-2000 kcals daily is a limitation. That's a normal caloric intake for healthy young individuals (a 2000kcal diet is the basis for % daily values on all nutrition facts). Most, if not all, of my naturally thin friends (read: not dieting) consume less than that per day. Again, I think it is faulty to pass that off as a con for VSG. I think it would be more appropriate to say that with the DS, it is feasible to live the same lifestyle (ie. eating at or upwards of 3000kcal) post-op and still lose weight and eliminate comorbidities.
Edit: the recommended daily caloric intake for young adults is around 2000-2400 (assuming a moderate - very active lifestyle; less than/equal to 2000 for sedentary persons) with a mean energy intake of 1803kcal for women. these values taper with older age groups (31-50: 1800 - 2000, 51+ 1600-2000, etc). I have friends who are chubby and eat less than 1500 cal a day, and I have a couple of thin friends who eat upwards of 4000 cals a day. We're all DIFFERENT, both pre- and post-op. That's why I advise people researching WLS to choose whatever procedure that will give them the post-op lifestyle they're most comfortable living with.
