i've always wanted to run.  there's just something magical abou****ching the people on the side of the road, looking focused and determined that makes me want to be like them.  I've never really been an endurance type person.  i ran track for about 2 months in h.s. and haven't done it since.

In 2010 I walked a 5k.  I had trained for months and was consistently walking 2.5 miles and when it came time to do the 5k I was exhausted.  Didn't realize that the 3.2 miles didn't include the start/finish which was at least another 1/2 mile itself.  I pushed myself through, and huffing and puffing was so proud of myself as i crawled over the finish line.

Now 50 pounds lighter, I want to start training again.  My goal is to actually RUN the 5k this year, which is in August 2012.  Since I had stopped walking consistently, I'm starting there.  I have a treadmill in my basement that (gasp!) I'm actually using again.  My goal is to walk at least 4-5 times per week, and slowly increase my distance.

Today I only did a 1/2 mile, but I did a slow jog for 1 1/2 minutes out of those 15 minutes it took me to finish.  At only 2mph it was really slow, but I RAN.  And that's what counts.  I did it, and I'm going to keep doing it, to attain my goals.  My sleeve is helping me have less weight to carry, but it's up to me to provide the endurance.

Anyone start the c25k program when they were still pretty far away from goal?  I'm 225 now and goal is 145.  Once I can walk consistently for 30 minutes then I will start the training, i'm thinking February is realistic.

Hi there.  I actually started the C25K program like 2 months ago and I just completed my very first 5k yesterday!  I will be posting pics soon.  I'm still about 40 lbs away from goal and I guess around 60 away from goal when I started the training.  I say go for it!  It's not a cake walk, it's meant to be a challenge but you can repeat weeks if you feel you need to.  I truly believe that there is nothing better than making goals for yourself.
