I had my sleeve done on the 28th and I am still on the clear liquids. I can's seem to keep down the chicken or beef broth. I have been living on protien shot enriched SF jello, SF ice pops, & water, juice, crystal lite.

I wanted to see if anyone had any OTHER ideas as to what I can eat. SO TIRED OF JELLO!

The best thing is actually to get Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup. You have to strain it (no noodles or chicken) but you get a lot more flavor that way!

Two weeks seems like a long time to just be on clear liquids.  I realize each doctor has their own protocol.  How much longer?

Next Monday would actually be a full 2 weeks but I think when I go on Thurs for my post op visit I will ask him about changing over! I can't deal anymore! They said the first 2 weeks are USUALLY clear liquids so there will be NO PROBS with the staple line. Then  they usually go 7-10 days for each of the next 3 stages. I know...Just the thought of 5 more days of BROTH, JELLO & JUICE are making me NOT want to eat!

Two weeks is very, very strict.  I have read position papers and dietary guidelines from a number of bariatric surgical associations and facilities, and most are on full liquids/pureed foods from about the 2nd or 3rd day after surgery for a duration of three to four weeks.  I wasn't allowed to leave the hospital until I could tolerate a couple of pureed meals.

There's no way to get the protein you need from a clear liquid diet.  The collagenized protein found in those clear Jell-o like shots are missing some amino acids, and while they don't hurt you, I've never heard of a nutritionist say they are complete or should be counted towards protein requirements.  And you need protein to heal properly.

Do a search on "sleeve gastrectomy post operative nutrition stages diet guidelines" and you'll see pages of examples from bariatric centers all over of the instructions given to their patients, plus scholarly papers.  Something to discuss with your doctor.  No doubt they are being overly cautious, and of course have your best interests in mind and jump start your weight loss.  But if your recovery so far has been without incident and you're feeling well, they should allow you to progress.

I was on clear liquids for 3 weeks per my doctors plan.

Do a search for protein shots on this site.  Depending on the brand, many use collagen protein, which is not a good source of protein at all

I didn't like the plain campbells chicken broth in a can, but I strained their chicken soups for that both.  That may work for you.  Some people have gotten their favorite chinese takeout soups and strained them for more flavor.  I got really sick of the sweet stuff too, and I never thought I'd say that!  Good luck.  You can do this!
