Day 4 ramblings... not happy

I had surgery on Monday, 12/5.  Home from hospital Wednesday and my primary thoughts are OMG WTH did I do to  myself? I can't even wipe my own bottom due to the pain.  I've not thrown up, only a little nauseous - managed well with drugs - but the pain in bending over... OMG!!!  Still trying to gag down the required protein drinks, and not doing well.  I bought the unflavored Unjury, and it has a flavor... sour milk... yuk...  Trying to walk every hour or so, and sip, sip, sip.

So, when does the pain ease up?

I received phenomenal care at St. Mary Mercy in Livonia Mich., my physician was/is great.  But this discomfort in bending, walking and moving... OMG!

Words of support or advice?

Hi there-hang in there. I had my surgery on the 5th as well & spent the entire next night awake wondering WTH I had done to myself! Now, that I am home and maintaining my liquids I am feeling much better. I even vacuumed the house today! My only major complaint is that I have two drains...yuck!  Just make sure that you get your fluids in. I really like the Unjury chicken soup and Special K protein water.

Thanks, Al - vacuuming?  really... I must really be a wuss...  I don't have any drains, for which I am thankful, I guess.

Those are normal feelings after surgery.  They will last probably 2 weeks and then start to go away.  Its a major hormone fluctuation.  I cried like I was pregnant. LOL.  It will get better I am 2 months post op on the day of your surgery and I am so happy I had the surgery now. I wasn't at first and it will be hard getting everything in the first few weeks but all gets a lot better after 2 weeks.

I was wondering if you could tell me about your experience over there. I am looking into doing my surgery there, but the price is so high. :/

Please give me all and any advice/info that you can.

Thank you!

Hi Leslie -  my experience was really great.  Dr. Zeni was/is my surgeon and the care I received was stellar.  It was quite a drive for me and then for my husband since we do not live over there, but the care, the expertise was worth it for me.  The 3-hour orientation class was down pat and very informative.  I will be joining a support group at a different location as Livonia is too far to drive, but I wouldn't have changed the experience there.  Now that I'm home, I miss my nurses Nikki, Laurrie, Linda and Alex.  Very compassionate, educated professionals.

I hope your experience is the same if you select St. Mary's.

Thats great to hear! i had my consult there on Tue and he seemed like a very nice person.

If you dont mind me asking......Did you pay out of pocket? or Did your insurance cover it?

Can you tell me about the class? what did they talk about? what did the give you as far as information?

Fortunately, my surgery was covered.  Not sure about all of the residual bills... what's not covered, but the bulk of the procedure was covered for me.  BCBS of MI.  They have the 3 hour class down to a science.  They have a booklet that they go through with everyone, bring your support person(s) with you.  They answer questions and talked to each one individually as needed.  They talked about, "now you've made your decision" "what to bring to the hospital" "Your hospital stay" "going home" etc.

They were spot on about all of it, including recommending not to bring much to the hospital.  Hospitals have germs and you don't want to take that stuff home with you.  They provided me a gown and backwards gown for a robe, toothbrush/paste, facewash and hand/body lotion.  The ONLY thing I used from my bag was my lip stuff.  I did not read my books, read my magazine or play my word search at all... didn'****ch TV hardly at all.  Dr. Zeni came and saw me every day and couldn't have been more attentive.  He's great.

Good luck.  Don't hesitate to email me privately if you want.  Good luck.  I'm not in my best spirit today.

Try adding the Unflavored Unjury to other foods;  I am sure I'd agree that the plain unflavored
would be nasty!

Good luck!

I add the unflavored powder to my puréed food.   I am 10 days out and feel great.  It will happen for you, too!   Good luck!
