A little nervous about the post op diet...
Well,
I am blessed! I had only a week or so notice on my sugery date as my surgeon worked me in to maximize the holiday break. Then, the dietician had to cram in an appointment to review the post op diet, and I though for sure I was going to have to wait until after the sugery to do it (my first appointment).
But now... after everybody here was so very kind in explaining their post-op diet, my plan seems aweful fast!! They have me on full liquids day two, pureed beginning of week three, soft food beginning week five, and normal food week six.
Right now I think I am going to try to do clear liquids for a lot longer than a day, I mean what's the rush? It will just make me appreciate the shakes that much more once I get there. Still planning on going out to try some Isopure. Tried a version they had at the hosptial and omg was it terrible. Had to drink it out of a plastic bottle, as it was powder that you add water to and shake. Nope, not for me.
It was very cool to have this appointment, as i feel like I now know what will stick with me for life.

I would say to go ahead and try following their plan, and your stomach will tell you if that is too fast. My doc's plan had us on mush/puree/soft proteins from the hospital on out and that worked fine for me. Yogurts, puddings, soups, protein shakes, etc. worked fine with my system in the first week.Their practice has been doing sleeves for around twenty years, so they know a thing or two about what the sleeve can tolerate, versus RNY pouches and the like that many other doctors base their programs on. Sure, there were lots of liquids in there, too, but the variety was good to have, particularly in protein sources since we need so much of it. My doc's basic advice was to try one new thing at a time to test your tolerance and if it didn't work, try it again a couple weeks later.
Some people will not progress as fast as others in this regard, but there is little reason to stay on liquids longer than you have to, assuming that you can tolerate more progress. You will probably find yourself getting tired of Isopure and protein enriched Jello fairly quickly (I was tired of soups after only a couple of weeks!) My doc's experience is that patients do better as the move onto more real foods, and that did seem to work in my case. When my wife when through this a few years ago on basically the same plan, she was somewhat slower to progress, but overall she progressed quicker than most of these RNY based plans. Just the differences between us all.
Don't be afraid to try new things as you are allowed - your doc is being plenty conservative.
