Detoxing from Carbs (again)

Ditto on the blood sugar swings and lethargy.  It's amazing... I used to get "that 2:30 tired feeling" EVERY SINGLE DAY.  At work, I almost had to lie my head down for a few minutes.  Once I had surgery and switched to low carb, I NEVER HAVE THAT ANYMORE!  It's amazing!

I am with you 100%.  When I let carbs in, I start to gain weight.  Period, end of story.  I know that many others can eat them in moderation, but I can't do it.  I don't need to track them most of the time, but I do need to keep a close eye on them and make sure that most of my meals are lean, dense protein and veggies.  It is really easy for me to start craving carbs, and when I do, I start to lose control of what I am eating.  Even having small serving sizes does not save me.

I get nervous when I read over and over on this board now how carbs are just fine and they can be a great source of nutrition and energy for people.  I know that this might be true for some people, but the vast majority of the people *****ad that and try it, will eventually gain weight.  I know this from two sources, one is just personal observation of myself and others on this board and in my support groups, and the other is my doctor's practice.  He has told me over and over that when he sees weight regain it has to do with added carbs.  Don't get me wrong, he also says that when something works for you, you should keep doing it, so for those people that can moderate their carbs and keep their weight low, they are just fine, the rest of us, not so much.

Completely agree!  I think a lot of VSG newbies can get away with carbs in the first while post op because their bodies are weight loss machines!  But I think once you closer to goal and further out from surgery and even in maintenance, I've seen over and over and over again how carbs can be a big downfall.  Maybe not for everyone, but many.

I feel sure I'll be one of those potential re-gainers too, so I'm trying to embrace everything about the low carb lifestyle so I can do it permanently.  #goodhabits

Carb sensitive junkie over here too!

For the majority of the work wee****ep my count 45 gm and under.  During the weekend I am not as strict and tend to not track my intake.  I figure since i do so super good during the week, I need not be so obsessive about what goes into my mouth during the weekend.  For the most part I am able to jump right back into low carbing but for some reason it has been especially difficult the first couple of days this week.  today has been better.  no carb cravings, no straying.

My body has been really responding well to low carb and then reupping.

WOW - I was just going to post - HELP - I have let carbs creep back in also.  I have put on about 4 to 5 pounds - I hate myself for it.  I still have restriction - but the carbs are killing me.  We can do this.  I am starting right now.  Prayers needed. :)

I am still in my weight loss phase. 10 months ago I eliminated carbs, except for about 20-30 grams per day from vegies. I, until just recently, allowed myself some crispy onions on my salads and a handfull of croutons every 3 days or so. Then I read up on Wheat Belly and have eliminated wheat from my diet as well. I am feeling so dang good, so much energy, and have dropped years from my appearance, and eliminated all my meds---I just freak out to think I could lose this surging energy I feel all the time by going back to sneaking carbs. If you are interested in wheat belly, just google it, and be prepared to get excited about learning new info. When fighting the carb monster, try to remember the time when you had so much energy, you felt 20 again. That alone might just motivate you really well. Good luck and get that carb monkey off your back!

This is SOOOOOOOOOO me!!! I feel like I have totally wasted like SIX WEEKS of my first 5 months because I was letting carbs cycle in... I would be good for a week, then fall off for a day or two... my worst was 5 days in a row...  It was the finalization of my divorce that did me in...

I know for me that I can't just moderate, at least not at this point, I wonder if ever :-(

I had a counselor, but we didn't really work on this stuff.... I'm gonna try someone different after the holidays... I didn't do all of this not to give myself EVERY possible chance of success!!!!

BUT, Carbs totally get me/attack me/beat me down and I think they always will.  Sigh.  Once I crack the dam there is a 75+% chance it will break and I'll all but binge for the rest of the day...

I do dream of the day when I might be able to maintain at like 60-100 carbs a day... able to add some more veggies, fruit, and some high quality whole grains... but at this point, if I don't keep it under 40 a day I totally stall or slow to a CRAWL.... even when my calories are under 800... very frustrating when even too many baby carrots can be an enemy :-(

So I have detoxed a lot... one thing I can say... it is easier with the sleeve :-)
