I've been paranoid about my 2 month labs... not too bad, but i'm still a worrywart so i'm scared.  my potassium is low so the dr. said to start eating a banana a day (right, that's about 10 meals for me).  but what concerned me was my bilirubin jumped up.  he said it could be internal bleeding however he does not believe it is due to my hemoglobin being fine, and says it may be gallstones.  he's sending me for more specialized blood tests.

i hate when things aren't perfecT!!!!!!!! :P

Jessica,

Here are some other foods high in potassium;

All meats, poultry, fish (salmon, halibut, tuna)
Avocados
Dried apricots, prunes
Pistachio and cashew nuts
White beans
Spinach
Tomato
Kiwi
Cantaloupe
Honeydew

It's your 2 month labs and you're still getting accustomed to the new eating. Your future labs should be better.

I use V-8 juice to get my potassium.  A 11.5 oz can has 1180 mg.

I would take a potassium supplement before I would start consuming carb-heavy potassium-rich foods like bananas. They gave me liquid potassium supplements when I was in the hospital after my surgery, which I do NOT recommend (like drinking thick liquid salt - blech!).

 High bilirubin can be caused by liver trauma, which would be consistant in general with this surgery.  If you don't have any other symptoms and subsequent tests show levels decreasing, that's probably it.  I would think 2 months is a little early for accurate blood tests.  Most often I hear blood work at 3 months.
