Feel like I am taking too much in??

My sugery was Monday, and I have been blessed with an easy recovery.  Today I ended up with 603 calories, 66 grams protein, and 73 grams of carbs.  It seems like too much?  I am wondering if I should drop the soy milk in the shakes?  I can't tell in my guidelines if it is required or just suggested as a way to get to 40 grams of protein.  40 grams is super easy for me to get too.  I am not hungry so I don't feel I have to take in the cals and carbs either.  I have never felt like I ate too much, but do a get a little gurgly when I eat.  tWhat do ya'll think?

I understand how you feel because I had a very easy recovery.

Are you on purees or liquids?

It's just my opinion, but as soon as you feel able to start reducing your carbs and controlling your diet, do so. definitely ask your doctor though before trying this.  I didn't really try until I got to mushies. My surgeon said to concentrate on protein and don't really worry about carbs until I started the regular diet, but at mushies I was feeling so good I just started trying to reduce the carbs and keep everything else the same.

If I were you, I'd start really trying to listen to your body and figure out how it tells you its full. I get an uncomfortable feeling in my back between my shoulder  blades. I also notice that I tend to just sort of stop eating and sometimes I even push the food away. This happens long before I actually feel full.

I think you said in another thread that you were getting all your water/fluids in which is good.

I just had my surgery 8 days ago and my doctor suggested a minimum of 60 grams of protein.  Protein will speed your recovery as well as help your skin not hang as much.  I just use 1% milk with my shakes and just ordered Unjury Chicken broth/soup.  I am healing well and can't wait to weigh in next week at my 2 week post op appointment.

Good luck

I wasn't required to count calories or carbs at the beginning. It's hard to avoid some when you're on the pureed food. Once you introduce solids, you can cut back on them quite a bit. You won't have room for much if you do the protein first like you should.

I am on full liquids.  I don't eat anything that doesn't have protein in it and recommended by my nut during the full liquid phase.  Today when I was tracking I was just really surprised how much all of it added up to.  I don't mind cutting back at all, I am just not sure if I should?  I would very much like to switch my shakes from being blended with soy back to being blended with water.  They are too thick with the soy base, and that would also drop a lot of carb.  Yesterday though I was at 300 calories and was getting headaches.  The nut warned of this and said to use shakes for some of the meals.  I just don't want to overdue it.

I am not sure yet what full feels like.  Up through yesterday I never tried to take in more than 1-2 ounces for a meal.  Today was different in that I did one shake at a sitting, but it took nearly an hour and a half to get it down.  Even today I didn;t feel like it was strecthing, or close to vomiting, or uncomfotable in anyway- just gurgly and gassy all day and yesterday.  That is normal though from what I read.

I think you're doing great! I don't think there's such a thing as too much protein. Just make sure you're getting plenty of non protein, non carb fluid to flush the protein through your kidneys. Gurgling to me is a good sign that everything's moving the way it should.

You may not get a fullness signal till you move beyond fluids. Not to be gross, but my nose does run if I eat too much.

Glad to hear of others with easy recoveries!

My Doctor never told me about consuming at leat 60 grams of protien daily. Just gave me a book of meal suggestions. I moved to puree food on Tuesday Dec 21st and don't know what full feels like. I eat 3 heaping tablespoons of puree'd soup and feel like I have a bunch of bubbles in my stomach and a little nausea. This happens every time I eat. Is this normal? I try to eat every two hours. This does not happen with liquids but does with jello.. Please any info would be helpful.

40 grams of protein was my target for weeks 1-2.  82 grams (based on my ideal weight) is the target after that for a while.  Not sure if that target changes.  I would absolutely track your protein intake!  Not enough protrein is where sleevers get into trouble with malnutrition issues later on, loss of hair, harder to heal, etc.

If your soups do not have much protein try adding in unflavored whey.  It will give it a boost!  I also add in the whey protein to yogurt with greek yogurt and sugar free torani vanilla syrup with good results.  Isopure Plus has been another super easy way to get protein and liquids down.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I am not allowed pureed anything for two weeks.  Soup included.  My "soup" is broth with protein added or a packet of cream of chicken bariatric stuff, and even with that I strain out the green herbs floating around in it.  Perhaps the naseau is from the soup being difficult to digest this early on?
