now nobody have a big fit on me cuz I'm not even thinking of having alcohol at this stage of the game, but I'm curious as to when and if you did and at what point was it and how did it affect you?

Our clinic said a glass of wine here or there is ok but definately in moderation. That was under the RNY info.. so I'm wondering does alcohol affect VSG'ers the same way.

My NUT recommended no alcohol until 3 months post op. Consume alcohol in your home the first time to find out the effects on you. I have seen other alcohol posts and VSGs tend to have "quick" effect and "quick" to wear off.
Good luck in the decision  that you make!

I had 1/2 glass 4 months out. I now have a full glass now and then (like every two weeks). I'm a social drinker. I can NOT have anything carbonated. That's a huge huge huge no-no for me. Hurts like heck. I can do wine with no problem though. Cheers, indeed!

HI - you need to wait until that newly sewed up tummy has healed I would think - but I started back with sips of wine at around 4 months I think....I'm now three years out and when we go out to eat, my husband and I share one glass of wine - can't really handle more liquid than that - also try and share margaritas or other drinks with whomever else we are with - a half a glass of anything and I'm feeling warm and fuzzy but no way drunk - but I was never a big drinker before either.  My husband never drank anything but an occasional beer and now swears having a half a glass of wine with his meals makes his digestion better - usually a white - pinot grigio or chardonnay - very girly, I know....but no room for beer in that tummy!

After your stomach heals, at least three months but six months is better, you can certainly have a glass of wine.  Just track the calories and be aware that you might/might not have a stronger reaction than you did before.   Now in maintenance I have a glass at least once a week.

My nutritionist recommends waiting until the maintenance stage, but I had my first drink at around 6wks post op. I will have an ounce or two of red wine, always with friends and when I am not driving so I can't get myself into trouble. I discussed with my nutritionist and she was of course concerned about the empty calories, but said that if the drinks didn't make me sick and I was careful not to get sloshed, that it was ok.

In order to make sure I don't overdue it, I drink wine out of shot glasses. I just tell people I'm slugging down jäger shots!

I was a big drinker prep and could realistically drink 10 beers in a night, etc.... Now I find 1 or 2 oz of wine is enough to get me tipsy, so I really have to be careful to stay safe
