Plastic surgery (Kaiser So Calif)
Has anyone had a tummy tuck (I know they don't call it that) and had it covered under the insurance with kaiser in so cal. I also want a breast lift. I was ok'ed for the breast reduction and lift 2 years ago, but was told I was to heavy for surgery. Well I have lost the weight and I want to have both done. I haven't lost all the weight yet but just want to start getting my ducks in order. Thanks
I have Kaiser (No. Calif) and from what I've been told they do not cover any skin removal surgery after WLS UNLESS you have documented cases of infection in the folds. I don't know if SoCal is different, but you can call Member Services and they can tell you if they cover it. Good Luck and I hope you get it... seems like if they have already ok'ed the breast reduction they could just do it all at one time.
I read a thread the other day about a law in CA about plastic surgery after WLS being considered reconstructive surgery and not cosmetic and that it has to be covered. I am in the process of finding out more about that because I need major work done...actually have pain and bruises with work outs due to the extra skin flapping on my arms, thighs and abd. I also have Kaiser (NoCal) and really am interested on what they will cover when all is said and done. I will post more when I find out.
I am going to a panneculectomy class today (I'm in the Fontana area). I had breast reduction surgery 6 1/2 weeks ago and it's such a life changer!!! Hopefully I'll find out some good info this afternoon :)

To the OP, my program had a lot of Kaiser patients and tummy tucks were always discussed as being covered but they would say you'd have to have to at least show a rash under there.
Regarding breasts, I am VERY interested in this. Are breast reductions/lifts are usually covered too? Do they HAVE to be reductions too? This is TMI but I've always had very large breasts (like, to an extreme) and I don't really have an interest in reducing them persay, but when this is all said and done I know they are going to be very crazy looking and need a lift. So can you get a lift without a reduction or do you have to get both?

OK, I just got home from the plastic surgery class and a couple of points that might be of interest are:
1. Your BMI needs to be 30 or less. The lower the BMI, the better results.
2. They typically would like for you to be at least 16 - 18 months post op from bariatric surgery and stable in your weight for a few months.
3. You must have a recurring rash, yeast infection and/or skin breakdown and your stomach must be large enough to cover over the "privates".
4. No smokers.
These are the big points that were emphesized and hopefully this helps!
