I know the answer is probably on here somewhere, but I just dont have it in me to look all over for the answer to my problem. I know this is probably common. I'm supposed to get these 64 oz of fluid down...I have no problem swallowing, but when it hits my stomach like 5 seconds after I swallow, the pain is unbearable. My hubby just went to fill the liquid lortab, should this help? Any other advice? Thanks

Yes.  The liquid Lortab should help it for sure!  Also, try different temperatures of liquid (water, broth, crystal light, etc).  I loved both extremes - hot and cold, but room temperature wasn't great.  Cold was probably my fave, mostly because it seemed to help the swelling inside my stomach as well.  Don't forget - sugar free popsicles count towards liquid, too, and they help change the texture/flavor/fun of the day. :)

Welcome to the other side.

for me in the very beginning and I don't have it now.. I had to take some OTC prevacid to be sure it wasn't the stomach acid. Also warmer water helps to keep the pain away sometimes the too cold water does not feel well... Good luck.

This is normal.  Try different things; warmer or cooler temperature of liquid, something other than water and take really tiny sips.  It will not last forever, but you must continue to drink or you will end up dehydrated in the hospital ER.  Good luck to you and it gets better so take heart.

Make sure you take tiny sips at first, in addition to what everyone else said. If the pain persists call your surgeon, better safe than sorry.

You probably won't be able to get all 64 ounces in yet. You're stomach is very swollen from surgey. I'm at 2 weeks out and finally got to 64 ounces yesterday. Keep sipping. You'll get there. Congrats on your surgery!!

Thank you for your quick response. I will try to take smaller sips. I have tried the different temps, haven't decided if one is less painful over the other yet. Again, Thanks for the advice.

It might be the pH of the water, try different liquids such as broth or sf Popsicles, or decaf tea.

Just take it easy. Most people are still in the hospital at this point. Just relax and do what you can. Rules will follow in a few days

I had the same problem when I first got home.  I attributed it to the gas pressure I had.  As soon as that went away, the pain when drinking went away.  It only lasted 2 days for me.
