Blender Bottle vs ....Blender

So when you guys make your protein shakes....do you use your blender or do you have a cup to shake it up.  Do you just stir it with a spoon?

I just noticed today that my blender makes the shakes extremely frothy with air.  This isn't so bad if you aren't sleeved....but I can imagine its not a good thing with a sleeve.

Any comments or new ideas?

I let them sit in the fridge for a few while the air bubbles disolve. I use both an small imersion type blender and blender bottles, depending on what shake I am making and when and where I am making it.

I just use water/gatorade bottles, put the lid on and shake. I read somewhere that putting powder in before the liquid  really makes a difference in the clumping and it's very true for me. I haven't made any fancy shakes yet so I don't see needing anything more for my unjury, nectar and body fortress.

Every morning, I wake up and go to the kitchen. I whip up a "fancy" (lol) protein shake in the blender, pour it in my blender bottle, and put it in the fridge while I get ready.

I do notice that it does make it especially frothy, but I, personally, do not have any bad tummy issues with it. I kinda like the way it feels and tastes!

I have yet to make a "normal" protein shake in my blender bottle but I do occasionally shake up my concoctions because they tend to get a bit grainy when you get to the bottom.

I like the blender because I like to add ice to make it more like ice cream.

I use a shaker bottle, not even one with the wire ball in it.  It's an old Medifast jar/bottle that is smaller than the shaker bottles.....I started using it when I went to China in April because of it's size.  I have a couple of blender bottles that leak.. this one is easier.

I bought the Oh Yeah! ready-to-drink shakes, and those worked well for me. They're pricier, but knew they would work best for me. My blender is a Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville - awesome for my *last* diet, where they encouraged adding a lot of ice to shakes to increase volume and make you feel fuller longer, but these days, that just won't work. I found, after surgery, my Oh Yeah! still went down just fine, but I lost the taste for a couple of my favorite pre-surgery flavors. I have switched over to Isopure, for the most part, mostly because I can thin it with water and drink it all day. Don't stock up on a ton of what you *think* you'll like, but have a variety of options, see what works, *then* make your purchases!

Good luck!

I like shaker cups because I can't gulp them down - it usually takes me 15-20 minutes to drink a full size shake. A shaker cup lets me reshake them every now and then. Protein powder doesn't usually settle out but if you add things like PB2 powdered peanut butter or cocoa powder for extra flavor, those do (as does my powdered calcium).

I also like it for work. After 8 months I still drink 2 shakes a day because (a) I don't absorb protein really well and my labs have been marginal, so I shoot for 100 grams a day and (b) I have a TINY tummy. All I have to do for work is put 2 scoops of protein powder, some of my powdered calcium, some cocoa powder and maybe a scoop of benefiber into a plastic tub and throw it in my lunch box. Then I can mix it in the shaker cup at work. Folks 'round here are used to seeing me with my chocolate concoction, but they do make metal ones so no-one can tell what you're drinking.

I stir everything in a little, then put it in the shaker cup, add some ice and shake well.

Warning - plastic shaker cups can get manky smelling from the protein after a while. I find washing them in the dishwasher cleans out their pores and helps, but only for a while. Figure they'll last 30 - 60 days and treat them as disposable.
