Tightness in chest - from bread?

Hey guys -

Just wondering if you've ever experienced the following - a few hours ago, I started feeling a tight sensation in my chest - like how it's difficult to completely inhale when you have bronchitis? Because this is centered in my chest, I did freak just a tint bit and called my surgeon's emergency line - but I'm well out of surgery (5.5 months).

He wasn't worried since I'm absent other symptoms (sweating, fever, rapid pulse, pain radiating down arm) and asked if I had eaten anything different like bread.

Coincidentally, I had bread a few hours ago for the first time since my surgery. I ordered a Mediterranean appetizer and it came with Naan (oddly). I had about half a triangle, with hummus and tzatistzy sauce. He thinks the bread may have expanded to give me this feeling - but it's similar to a muscle tightness, and nothing like restriction or having something sitting at the top of my esophagus. I've also drank about a liter of water and protein shake since then.

Anyone have this tirghtness sensation before, or have bread, even a flat bread like Naan cause this?

No idea Ruggie, but be careful.  I am glad to read you do not have any of the other symptoms the surgeon rattled off.  Maybe warm tea to help relax the area a bit?

Think about your muscles- are they more flexible in the cold or warmed up.  May help things finish going down was my thought.

Just wanted to tell you I hope you feel better. Tightness in the chest had to be scary! Mediterranean Naan? That is odd! It's good that you called the doctor though. Better to be safe than sorry.

Hi, ruggie--

I can't eat bread at all.  It feels like it gets in my stomach and absorbs all the fluid in there and expands and sometimes it feels like it balls up and sits there.  It's very uncomfortable.  Small amounts of toast are okay and so are crackers, it's just doughy stuff that does it to me.

i guess bread is not your friend!

do you ever find that if you have a weird symptom, if you get stressed about it, it tends to get worse and you can't stop thinking about it?  ugh.  i get that.

you going to try it again?  see if that's what it was?

I had a similar experience. I nibbled on some texas toast which was kinda soft and gooey in the center. Had maybe the equivalent of 1 normal-person bite. 10 minutes later it was like a bowling ball was lodged in my chest. Every time I breathed it pushed together. I got the slimey stuff and was seconds away from going to the bathroom to make myself puke when finally, something gave way and the tightness stopped. I will never, ever be eating anything like that again.

Oh boy! Bread does that to me now and I haven't had surgery yet... guess I won't be eating that at all when sleeved. Deep breaths and relaxing the muscles are the secret. Sorry you had that problem, but for me it will be a good thing as I LOVE fresh bread.
