A little scared

Hi all.  My daughter has a stomach virus that's been going around.  The virus went through the whole family of friends down the street, which is probably where Laura got it.  I am feeling a bit queasy myself, though I don't know if it's real or sympathy pains.  I have been so so lucky and haven't vomited at all since surgery, and haven't had any complications.  I'm a little scared that I'm getting the virus and how it will affect my sleeve.  I've babied this sleeve since I got it 4 - 1/2 moths ago.  I just need reassurance that my sleeve and I will be ok.  Thanks for listening!  Mary

I wouldn't worry too much, just make sure your doing the right things.  I also got the flu the same week I got out of the hospital from surgery.  My PCP just told me to make sure I get in enough fluids, and I was cleared to take any of the liquid cold/flu medication...  Good luck to you!

At 4 1/2 months, you should be way past the point where vomiting from a stomach virus would cause any sleeve problems.

That said, I really hope you don't get it!!

I dealt with my first bout of stomach flu at about 6 months out.  I had no problems with my sleeve...it was no different than having the flu pre-op.

Thanks everyone for your reassurances and support.  I kind of figured I'd be okay.  We can't avoid stomach viruses for the rest of our lives, but I just eeded to voice my fear and have you all say I'd be okay.  Thanks!!!!!!

My entire family got hit with a nasty stomach virus just before and during Christmas...I spent Christmas day in the hospital with my mom who severely dehydrated and passed out on Christmas morning from it.  I, too, was terrified of profuse, violent, repeated vommitting because I was only 4.5 months out and had never vommited post-op.  I wore a mask all day while I was with my mom and washed my hands with antibacterial soap maybe a hundred times (I felt like Monk, if you ever watched that show...lol!).  I started drinking tons of water, just in case, so I would avoid dehydration.  In spite of my best efforts, the evening of the following day, I vomitted - violently.  Luckily, that was the only time and the rest of the Novovirus de****d to use "the other exit", but I was really scared and spent hours trying to "hold down" the vomitting.  It was an awful experience, but I made it through just fine and if you get sick, I'm sure you'll be fine, too.  Good luck!

I haven't had a stomach virus yet (knock on wood) but I can tell you that in ~ 24 hours post surgery I vomited / dry heaved till I thought my toes would come up. How any suture line made it through that is beyond me. But the nurses weren't worried about it, and I passed my leak test. I'm assuming if all the vomiting didn't hurt my sleeve that early on, then hopefully any vomiting down the road won't be dangerous either. But, best of all not to have to test the theory

Hope you all stay well.
