Edmonton AB to Mexicali Surgery Feb 6

After waiting researching and plan for a year. My house has sold and I have booked my surgery for Feb 6 with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali.

Looking for angels and encouragement. Need to get started on my pre op diet supplies and post op diet supplies and plans

Congrats on getting your surgery booked! We'll be in the hospital the same time (different places though, I'm using Dr Alvarez in Mexico) because mine is set for the 4th. SO EXCITING!!!

Awesome.  I would love to keep in touch post op to see how we are doing and lend each other support. I am starting to get apprehensive now as a couple of people I told are freaking out about Mexico and that I am going alone.

I had my sugery on Dec with DR Aceves, he was great as was his team, the Hospital couldn't be cleaner and they have kept in touch with me since following my progress. If I have any questions they are answered soon after I email. I was very nervous at 1st going to Mexico but was made at ease soon apon arrival. The driver Earnesto picked me up in the shuttle and was happy to answer any question he could to, he had the same surgery himself. YOu will be in good hands my dear. Cheers,

I am so glad to hear you had a good experience. Most people who see Dr. Aceves seem to have nothing but good things to say but its nice to know as yours is so recent.  Yes my a couple of my friends (that I told) are starting to freak that I am going to Mexico for surgery and alone.

Hey Jewels, I also went alone beacuse my spouse couldn't get time off work. I flew into San Deigo and was picked up from there , then taken back there after I got out of the HOspital. I went a day early and stayed a couple days later to tour around San Deigo, I had never been there. I took the Old Town Trolley tour it was awsome, strolled around the malls and relaxed for a few days before the long flight back. Not much to see in Mexicalli , it is a sort of Business district. Are you going straight to Mexicali?
You will breeze through it, don't worry. My starting weight was 268 as of today I am down to 248. I am happy with that. Took me 48 years to get here , its worth the wait to get rid of it now.:- )

Thank you for responding. It seems my family/friends are worried I might get shot crossing the border ... I will be 48 in March and I just want to get on with life without all this weight holding me back which it has been. I am so glad you had a good experience, hope mine is as well. Take Care Julie

Hey we are the same age, , I felt the same way I had heard about the surgery for years but never thought I wanted to get opened up (the old) then when I was looking it up again and seen how simple it looked , I decided to go for it. I have been over weight all my life and have not had any major issue. No health problems. I only decided a few months ago to do it. I thought the sooner the better, before I changed my mind. I called Dr. Aceves office and was able to get an appt within 9 days. I did the low carb high protein diet for that time and off I went.
When is your appt again? And do you fly right to Mexicalli or San Deigo? If you can take a few extra days and enjoy. I also noticed a big differnce and prices depending on what days I flew. I stayed longer and it cost me less. go figure.
Does yr Family Doctor know you are going, mine didn't until I got back . I was afraid she would try to talk me out of it. I wsas right, when I got back and went to see her she said she would have... BUt she is very supportive and very concerned in following me up in this journey. She has ordered blood work , meds to keep an eye on things .
I have not told anyone other then my spouse about the surgery, I think in my mind I won't beleive it until the wieght is gone.

Where do you live? Very similar we are :D I have slightly high blood pressure but no other health issues that I am aware of. I to have been overweight my entire life, I have spent about a year making this decision. Was going to get the lapband but once I started doing research found the VSG a better fit for me. I have not told my parents or my children. Only a couple of close friends. I fly from Edmonton to San Diego then they will pick me up and take me to Mexicali.
I have not told my Doctor and assume he would try to talk me out of it and/or give me an ear full when I get back... I am kind of worried about that and am sooo praying all goes well.

I live in Nova Scotia, Halifax area. Your story is sounding more like mine by the min. lol  I  am sure your Doctor will be ok once you get back and tell him, he will have to follow up and watch you. My Doctor is treating me for Gallstones, well prefntion of gallstones. I guess that can be an issue if you lose weight to fast and this medication is suppose to stop it from happening, very gross tasting medicine. I will have to take it for 3 months. I was also told to take B12, Iron, Multi vitamin, Vitamin D. so I got all either liquids of dissovable.
