What does it mean when people are talking about head hunger?

From what I understand, you aren't actually physically hungry, but you think you are because of old habits.  If you get your protein in, you shouldnt be physically hungry.

I think... :)

For me it means that my head/brain is telling me that I am hungry but I don't feel physically hungry at all. It is a very strange feeling...for me anyway!

Okay my head says that I am dying for the five guys bacon cheesburger smothered in mushrooms, sauteed onions, mayo and mustard as well as a fry with four sides of mayo to dip them in.  That is my head hunger.  My tummy says whoa those four bites of fish we had tonight was toooooo much!

You crave the old food mostly because that was your comfort buddy or you miss that old fat taste.  Your stomach is not hungry nor does it tolerate that stuff anymore.  So head hunger says your hungry but you know you aren't because you just drank something and your tummy said ENOUGH.

I was thinking it meant you just feel like eating when you're not really hungry but I see it used in different ways and it doesn't seem there's a "universal" meaning to it.

I saw one thread where people were talking about head hunger immediately post surgery. I didn't experience that. I experienced real hunger that physically hurt. So I was wondering if everyone was using the term the same way. Just checking.

Most obese people do not ever even experience real hunger.  Many of us eat because of completely different reasons.  These include boredom, stress, loneliness, depression and other emotions.  This surgery may take away your real hunger, but it does not take away your desire to eat for other reasons.
