flexibility
One of the hallmarks of me being a compulsive eater, over the years, has been a "don't mess with my food" attitude. With kids, I had to learn to temper that attitude, but it was work to keep my cool and let go when someone wanted to have some of the food I planned to eat. That attitude is still there lurking for me, and I still have to work at being flexible. That need for flexibility was tested Friday and yesterday. First, my 13 yr old ate my leftover chicken, which I was going to have for supper while they ate pizza. Then, last night, I made baked ziti for company, and forgot to leave out some of the filling to bake for me, without the pasta. I did get a little mad at myself last night, but both times I managed to keep my cool, find something I could eat, and move on. Now I plan for those times, by keeping a container of chili, a bag of cheese sticks and a few other items on hand. But it is the attitude that I need to keep working on, and it is getting better. I know that if I want to continue to grow in this journey, the head work is as important as the body work.
You are right and it is good that you recognize it....Way to go! Figuring out better attitudes and behaviors are so important for long term success....
It is normal to be frustrated when things don't turn out as planned, such as when someone eats your healthy food you planned on eating, but learning to find another healthy alternative is so much better than saying "screw it" and then eating bad food.
