Is decaf bad for me?

So.... I still have a hard time drinking plain water.  When I drink it, I get kind of a "stuck" feeling.  I've mentioned this to my NUT, and she says she has heard of of other people having this problem.  She says it's probably due to the pH of water.  Her suggestion was to alter the pH of water (ie, by adding a little lemon to it).  This suggestion really does work... water with something in it to change the pH really does go down easier.

I have taken to drinking decaf.  LOTS of decaf.  I will often have 16 ounces of regular in the morning, 48 ounces of decaf throughout the workday, 16-24 ounces of plain water at the gym (oddly enough, I can drink regular water pretty well if I'm in the middle of my workout), then 16 ounces of decaf at night.  Sometimes, I'll have protein water instead of the evening decaf.

My husband gave me a hard time yesterday about all of the decaf.  He said "isn't that much decaf bad for you?"  Well, I googled it, and it sounds like it IS bad for me... It sounds like it can be hard on the stomach lining?  Some places made it sound like it could lead to cancer? That it is worse than regular?

Do any of you have any insight into how healthy/unhealthy decaff is?

Thanks!

I know that decaf does contain SOME caffeine so I imagine if you are drinking a lot of it you might be getting more caffeine which is a diaretic and can dehydrate you. I know that I can't drink regular octane coffee at all anymore. I end up completely dried out.  I know also that Coffee contains some acids and even tannens (the good stuff in wine). I would think if the acid does not bother your stomach you should be okay.

If it helps at all, I have taken to drinking decaf iced tea with lemon. Tea has less caffeine than coffee and the decaf even more so. I find water makes me belch like crazy so I almost always mix it with something. Sometimes I put a little bit of blueberry juice in it just for flavor.

Hmmm.... I heard the opposite- that coffee is a deterrent to cancer.  Not sure on that one though.  What I am sure is that coffee, decaf or regular, has a lot of acid in it.  The acid can indeed by hard on the stomach and prior to surgery and the hernia repair kill me with acid reflux.  Not that this stopped me from consuming a pot a day or anything.  There are low acid coffees out there that could help you with this if it is a concern.  If you look in a grocery store that generally has a good selection you should be able to find one.  If not here is a link from Amazon with one brand- there are many and I cannot recommend this as I have never tried it.  There are reviews for it though
