Sniffles...

Here's my problem with it... if I understand how things work...

Let's say in two months I decide to post the "hey, look at me, it's my 2-year anniversary, and here are my before and after pics" post. I do this because I enjoy sharing my journey with the people here on obesity help because I know it really encourages people starting or during their own journey.

As I understand it, the people at OH might say "Hey, wow, that's a really inspiring post. She's got some great before and after pics and encouraging words. We think that would encourage other members and nonmembers at our Facebook page, too". So the folks at OH then create a link at the OH Facebook page to my post whi*****ludes my pics. Those pics are now not only on the OH website (which I was ok with), but now they are up on Facebook at the OH location there.

It is highly, highly unlikely that the people I know that do not know I had this surgery, that do not know that I ever got so big, will seek out the OH website.

However, MANY people I know that don't know I had the surgery and don't know that I ever got so big, use Facebook and we are friends on FB. I use the same photo on FB as I use here on OH. Even though I've never used my real name here, there is a higher risk of them accidentally coming across me somewhere on FB, especially if my photo is out there for them to see on a post that I did not want linked from OH. The chances may still be slim, but the odds are increased. I'm not ok with that... at all.

Everyone in your world may know your history. Not everyone in my world does. I have high school and military friends that I have not seen in 15-20 years that have no knowledge of my obesity issues. It is not something I want to share with them. That's my choice. I travel a lot, so I do see a good number of these people from time to time.

I do not care for these two worlds to collide. I'm not sure what the future holds for me here now on OH. I want to stick around, but I feel much more restricted now. I can still get encouragement from you guys... and that's great and worth sticking around for. But now I'm restricted in one of the good ways I can encourage you - through progress pics.

That just sucks.

if people search the sleeve or WLS they will do it on google before they do it on facebook.  the chances of someone 'accidentally' coming across your picture on facebook are pretty low.  unless they specifically go to the obesity help facebook page.
