Facebook Overraction??
I've seen in the last few days this panic from several people on this site related to posts from obesityhelp.com ending up on Facebook. Maybe I'm a little confused and just need someone to point me in the right direction, but I've gone on the obesity help facebook fan page, I've looked over the posts on this site, and I have to say I don't see what people are all up in arms about. I haven't liked the obesityhelp facebook page, but when I looked at the content on the page, it was mostly links to blogs on this site that were more than likely approved by the people who created them.
Moreover, this is the world wide web. If for some reason, in the world of google where even your google searches are archived, you think that your intenet content is private that you post to a public forum, I apologize for your misconception of what the internet is.
This site is full of great information. I hate that so many people are taking action to leave the site, or remove some of its content. I would suggest taking the proper precautions to keep yourself as anonymous as you feel necessary. Hopefully people will get all the facts before taking drastic steps to just leave the site as this site is only as good as the people who provide the content.
Just had to share my peace

I agree. I dont understand why everyone is freaking out over nothing. I like OH on FB and I have seen them sharing stuff, and I thought it was more inspirational.
Amen! It's the 21st century, guess what, if you don't want it out there for all to see, then don't put it on the internet and especially on a public website. I post on here with full knowledge of what can happen and what risk there are. The pictures I post on here are to help insprire newbies and keep me motivated to work hard. If some loser has enough time to troll obesity websites for pictures, guess what, he's worse off then me! LOL!
What OH was doing is pulling some of our posts and putting them on facebook without checking with us first. I am not sure if they pulled some of those posts, but there were a number of members that did not give permission for their posts to be put on facebook, yet that is where they ended up. I did not mind having my photos and other information on here as I believe the odds of people in my circle finding it here are minimal. Yes, there is always some danger, but it is rather small. Someone would really need to be looking for bariatric information to find me here, and I can live with that. Facebook is a whole other story, I did not want to end up on facebook without my permission. I felt that I really had two choices, one was to deactivate and the other was to remove all of my photos and any posts that might be used to identify me. The photos were the biggest deal to me. Most of my close friends already know about my VSG journey and I share my experience with many, however, I want to preserve my ability to have some anonymity in the future from people I don't even know right now. There might be work related situations or other issues that arise in the future, where I might not want people to know about my medical history. I tried to find a middle ground and made myself feel a bit better by removing the photos. I hope this explains it a bit.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's not like you had to have some secret code to see the pictures and posts on THIS site, which I would be willing to bet is seen far more frequently than the Facebook OH page. I know people who seem to think their own Facebook pages get checked out by lots and lots of people every day, and it's just funny to me. Most of those are folks who are constantly playing the games or posting links to news stories (like people can't find their own news). I would be FAR more embarressed for people I might actually know or do business with to know that I "need to get a cup of lemon juice" or that I have 'won an award" for my 'farm' than I would be for someone to see my pictures here. In fact I'd rather pose in a bikini and post it here and on FB than to have silly 'news' or
the political rants I see posted next to FB avatars. 'I'm pretty sure no one gives a toot about my facebook page, and I rarely ever even look at it anymore. I do update my picture there too, and *gasp* it does have my real name and location on it. That's just so if anyone 'needs' to check me out for a job or whatever, it gives some real information. As far as being 'safe', iI don't get too involved with people I have never met in person in any case.
