How do you know the difference between a virus and surgery related intestinal issues?

 ok, tmi i know, but i haven't had diarrhea since the week after surgery, and went once today at work and then 4 times since i got home an hour ago.  i did have 2 small pieces of chocolate today (i will occasionally have some sweet treat but it's a small amount and has never bothered me previously).  i work at a day care, nothing is going around that i know of, but i'm so scared!  every twinge i wonder if it's a virus or related to surgery?  

any advice? 

I did clear liquids for one week pre-op and one week post-op, then three weeks of puree.  I had diarrhea for a little over two weeks post op.  I would say that you are normal.  Try to keep up on your fluids and hang in there, it gets better.
