Just wondering if anyone was allowed tomato soup on their pre-op diets?

Mine is a protein shake diet where I drink protein shakes every four hours with broth and sf popcicles/jello in between... (not clear liquids or anything)

Thanks!

In between my protein shakes, I was allowed all the low calorie liquids I wanted.  So broth, sf jello, sf popsicles, crystal light, powerade zero, etc.  Tomato soup didn't quality as low-cal for me.  Plus, it's mostly carbs.

No it wasn't a personal thing.  My doc's plan didn't allow it.  Check with yours to be sure, but I bet you can't have it.

Ask your doctor. Not all pre-op diets are created equal. I'm on a sugar free, caffeine free clear liquid diet. Tomato soup isn't on it.

Tomato soup was allowed on mine along with cream based soups but good to ask your doctor because every plan is different

My Doc didn't allow Tomato soup on pre-op...tho I did get to have it after surgery when I started my liquid diet...aslong as it didn't give me heartburn. I'd ask my doc!

I LOVE tomato soup.  It was allowed, but I made mine:

1 can tomato sauce
1 can water
1/2 packet of splenda
1T. Half & Half.

I heat the first items, when they are the correct temp, I add the last two.  Not sure where I found this, but to date, I still have it almost daily.  70 cal. way less sodium.

I was allowed it but the doctor's office cautioned me to watch out for the sodium.  If you drink it, go for a classic tomato and not a bisque soup or cream of tomato.  I chose the Healthy Choice tomato basil just to provide some variety.

I'm three days post-op and on clear liquids.  My sister-in-law went through all of the effort to make me homemade chicken broth.  She boiled the chicken with veggies and seasoning, then strained it all.  Oh, the flavor is delicious and much better than boullion which is so salty.  Yum!
