It's a bold statement saying I felt I had much better care with Dr Alvarez than I do in the States? I don't see how that is so bold but this is why I feel I had better care with Dr Alvarez:
He has time to take with his patients that US Dr's do not have (they squeeze in so many patients per day and are just WAY TOO BUSY to give one on one attention all through the day to each patient), He comes to check on you several times throughout the day while you are recovering. He gives you his personal email address/phone number that HE responds to (not a nurse) should you have any questions after leaving the hospital. His staff was sweet, polite, and very attentive. We fell in love with litlte Jessica who walks you through the whole process and even takes the family members out to the restaurants to get something to eat. She made sure my caretaker was taken care of at all times as well as myself. When you call a nurse they are there in seconds and take care of your needs. I have been hospitalized (many surgeries) in the states and I LOVE nurses but they are SO swamped that they cannot be as quick as we need sometimes. (I blame the system and not the poor nurses who are working their tails off!)
I am not saying people can't have good care in the states or even good surgeons, all I'm saying is that in my experience this was better care than *I'VE* receieved in the states.
And this is coming from someone who was scared to get surgery across the border. He is so experienced and actually even has better equipment than my U.S. hospital. He has one of those CO2 gas extractors (wish I knew the technical name) but they remove all the gas that was put into your abdomen during surgery. When I had my hysterectomy in the U.S. they didn't have that and the pain caused from that gas being left in was absolutely HELL. It is an expensive piece of equipment but he has it for his patients' comfort and I appreciate that so much.
The driver and susan (the patient coordinator) made the experience complete smooth sailing. It just couldn't have been easier.
