I just had surgery Monday and was discharged Thursday. I could have sat thru a 4 hour class. Then on Fri I travelled back to Canada whi*****luded a 3 hr car ride from Mexicali back to San Diego. Sat at the airport for two hours. Then flew back to Canada with two delayed flights didn't get back to Edmonton until 10 pm. I was fine sitting that long. Although I recovered well inhospital with no gas, no nausea and minimal incision pain. You may have to wait until after surgery to see how you are doing.  Good luck

I would say, TAKE A BREAK. My classes are only four weeks long and I postponed a class to have surgery. I'm glad I did because I was physically fine, but I was not mentally ready for all the homework. What am I saying, I'm never mentally ready to take on homework at my age (46)LOL. Good luck and enjoy your journey.

I absolutely could not have sat up for 4 hours that soon. I went back to work 2 1/2 weeks after surgery, worked just 1/2 day that day, and that was a struggle.  I was so sore.

In my experience I couldn't sit or stand for a long period of time.. it would get uncomfortable to sit upright because the stiches in my stomach wall muscle felt a "pulling" sensation so when I walked or sat up I looked hunched over for about a week. I felt comfortable going out in public and standing or sitting for longer periods about a week after surgery.

I had no significant pain and no nausea and went back to my desk job after a week and I still wouldn't want to have put on clothes and sat for four hours at a desk the day after I got home from the hospital. I hadn't found a comfortable way to sleep through the night at that point (I can't sleep in the hospital very well). You'll have plenty to figure out. Don't put this stress on yourself.

There is NO way I could have.  I"m 11 days post op and I don't know if I could do it now, but I have had complications.  I also don't think your surgeon would recommend you sitting for 4 hours straight after surgery, they preach getting up and walking.

I healed super quick to the point where I went Christmas shopping the day after I was released from the hospital but there was no way in earth I could've gone to class that week (I too take accelerated classes, 1 time per week, 4 hours, new session every 5 weeks).  My biggest fear was that I was still getting used to feeding myself - how could I sip on broth & water while in class?

I did talk to the teacher ahead of time, told her I wouldn't be able to make it b/c of the surgery and she cut me a bit of slack.  My grade wasn't as high as I expected it since I missed an oral presentation, but it wasn't awful either.  I'm sure your teacher will be able to work something out for you!

Nope. i was in terrible pain from the gas for a whole week and the 5 hour flight home was almost unbearable not being able to get up and walk. I was able to move around easily but my back, sides and lower rib cage ached like a toothache. All I wanted to do was walk or lie down. If it was 2 weeks later, no problem, but 3 days is unthinkable. I was stil in the hospital on day 3. Best to wait for the next session.

I say yes! GO for It. I went to a 3 hr football game(with travel time) in the freezing cold day after my surgery to watch my daughter cheer. I went back to work 5 days after my surgery and never took any of the pain meds they sent home with me.. Grant it I am a HS teacher but it still a 8hr day.

Thanks everyone for all the input!  I've decided to not sign up for the next class.   I'm a recently single mother of a 2 and 4 year old and I work full time.   I barely have time for my homework now,  without dealing with trying to drink every 15 minutes lol.

Thanks again,
Amy
