I honestly don't think I can do it

At the last NUT appointment she dropped my calories down to 600 and bumped my protein up to 90.  I can do 600 calories, but usually end up between 75-80 protein grams.  When I do 90 then I am up over 700.  I can't seem to combine 600 cals with 90 grams consistently.    Gonna keep working on it!  On the upside- all healthy choices for a long string now- getting better and better!

I was in the 600's and over 100 grams of protein consistently for months. Here's what a day looked like:

Breakfast: 40 gram protein shake, less than 200 calories

1st lunch: 1 1/2 oz of some meat thing less than 100 calories

2nd lunch: 40 gram protein shake, less than 200 calories

Dinner: 1 1/2 oz of some meat thing less than 100 calories

Snack: depended on how much less than their targets the above were. Usually 6 or 7 almonds at the low end (about 45 calories) or a tablespoon of peanut butter at the high end, about 90 calories.

I upped my protein in August and stayed on that plan until I hit goal about 3 weeks ago.

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

Ahhh... mom, this is just what I needed.  No clue how to do it unless i drink only premier shakes and that is not sustaianable.  What shakes are 40 grams at 200 calories- just that would make a difference!  I am so going to follow your plan.  Thank you!!!!

Powdered shakes usually. You have to do the math - usually one scoop is 20-26 grams - but there are a bunch of powders in that range. Check at GNC or Vitamin Shoppe.

I do use peppermint extract (just a few drops) or dark chocolate cocoa powder (about a teaspoon) to spruce them up.

Two isopure waters would get you to 90 grams of protein if that helps.  Another thing I used to do way back when I was a gym rat and really watched my protein-I'd cook chicken breasts in my George Foreman and put them in a baggie to fit whatever my protein needs were for the day.  I'd alternate between protein shake and chicken breast all day.

The meat thing is tough for me.  I was a vegetarian for years, but I do eat meat now.  I just don't love meat.  I have been trying to find a way to do this without shakes all day or meat all day- once a day on each would totally work.  Right now though, I just need to get to goal on calories and protein at the same time- so if that means two shakes a day and 1 meat then it is just going to have to be that way for now.

What about a baked/broiled/steamed white fish like tilapia or cod?

3 oz is 104 calories, 3 g fat, pretty much zero carbs, and 18 g of protein.  Season it with low cal or no cal stuff like lemon pepper or cajun seasonings.

I eat way more fish than chicken.

Greek yogurt has double the protein of regular.  I mix the plain, fat free kind with some berries, some sliced almond, sweetener and about a tablespoon of All Bran nuggets.   I probably get about 18-20 grams of protein in that meal and it's very satisfying.  You can add some unflavored protein powder, such as Unjury to that mix and really boost the protein without adding lots of calories, as well.   Also, low fat cheese sticks are about 70 calories each, with 8 grams of protein.  Having a cheese stick for a snack won't break the calorie bank and will add protein.  Hope this helps!

Well, I just made it today.  593 calories and 90 grams of protein.  I had to skip a snack to make it under the calorie goal, but it did include only one shake.  I ended up dumping in protein powder and pb2 in the shake to boost the protein and that made the difference.  One day down, and ready for tomorrow.  No hunger issues though so I am pretty darn happy about that. :)

Thank you everybody for your posts.
