Preparing for vsg in Mexico.
Hello there vsg world, his is my first post since I was just s heded yesterday with Dr. Aceves.
Im scheduled for surgery on feb 27th. Very exciting!
Can y'all give me some tips:
Are there any WLS specific things that I should pack and bring with other than gas x to be successful
Also, what should I have at home when I get back to be as successful as possible?
Thanks all!

The Gas-X is not really going to help with the gas in your abdomen, because its in your abdominal cavity, not your actual stomach. Walking is going to help that gas.
Take skiddy socks for your feet!
Raise the bed to the highest sitting up position before you try and sit up and get out!
To have at home, broth, sugar free/NSA Popsicles, things of that nature. Keeping hydrated is very important especially at first.
I am unsure what instructions Dr. Aceves gives his folks, or what he sends you home with, in terms of acid reducers, or nausea medications or what, so I am going to let some other Aceves folks take over, but good luck to you! I am excited for you!

Congrats on scheduling and your choice of surgeon! This sounds crazy, but for me, the whole experience was a very special time............the start of a whole new beginning! I hope yours will be one as well!
My pain was a bit more intense the first day due to an unexpected hiatal hernia repair. I had to ask for a protein pump inhibitor (for acid) the first night, which was a bit more difficult as the night staff don't speak English as well. I also had a VERY difficult time with drinking liquids, especially water. If you have any favorite tea or non-caloric drinks, take some with you. I also had one of those old fashioned ice packs (that you fill with ice), which really worked for holding against my abdomen for the first few days. I slept a LOT, but if you're awake and if you have a companion, you may want to bring some DVDs, the programming on the TV was a bit sparse!
Best wishes for an excellent experience!

Maintain daily activity levels and practice clean eating........still battling some unhealthy behaviors!
Yay I'm so excited for you!!!
As you know my experience with Dr Aceves was awesome! Of course I was nervous to go alone to Mexico for a major surgery, but I was very confident in my decision. Once there I felt very comfortable! The hospital is very nice and clean, and you'll have your own private room. I felt very, very little pain after surgery. I asked for pain meds a lot, even if I wasn't hurting, just so I could sleep through my stay. There is a tv in your room, but only a few good English speaking channels. I brought my iPad to keep busy. Books would work too.
I walked a lot after surgery! It was fun just cruising around the hospital. Everyone is so nice! I brought a robe and slippers and that's what I wore my whole hospital stay. Also bring comfortable clothes for your trip home. Are you still going alone? The only time I really wished I had someone with me was the first night at the hotel. Luckily I fell asleep fast though because the dr will give you a pill to relax. You're going to be so happy you had VSG! Also I was/am an emotional eater too. The good thing about VSG is it takes away hunger (sometimes I forget to eat!) and if I do ever feel like eating bad I can literally eat one or two bites. You'll do great! Let me know if you have more questions!
