Looking for a Surgery Buddy
Hi!
My name is Sara and I live near Los Angeles and my VSG surgery date is tentatively scheduled for 3/7/2012. I am having my endoscopy this Tuesday and my final medical clearance (bloodwork, EKG, chest xray, ect.) the following week.
I have been overweight the majority of my life and have had a few weight loss successes over the years, but nothing that I could maintain long term. I currently weigh 265 lbs. I have sleep apnea and arthritis in one knee (injured in my teens). I am quite active for someone my size, but over the past year, I began to really feel the effects of my weight. I never permitted my weight to stop me from anything before, but now I was coming to realize that my weight WAS drastically impacting my life as well as my family.
I have researched WLS over the past 4 years and decided that the sleeve was the way to go for me. The nurse for my insurance was reviewing my file on Friday and notified the doctor that everything was in place and no further information was needed. I meet all the criteria so we expect a positive response on Monday or Tuesday.
I desperately want to find someone having surgery near my date as I need to connect with someone going through the same thing.
I am traveling 3 weeks post surgery to attend my Grandmother's memorial as she passed away this week. I am a little concerned about the healing at that point and not so much about finding appropriate things to eat.
Any takers?

Hi Sara! I'm Jamie. My surgery is March 15 and I am going on a 7 night cruise just shy of 4 weeks post op. I am 263lb and 5ft 8in. I coach volleyball and work full time. I have researched vsg for 3 yrs. My insurance excludes wls. I decided this year I can't keep being this fat and will pay for the surgery myself.
Id love to be your buddy!
Jamie.
