Pain reliever? Advil vs Tylonol? Help!
You guys are the absolute BEST!
Thanks to everyone for their input. I know that there are conflicting choices but to hear everyone's opinion and their reasons was a great eye opener for me.
Before surgery I used Advil too freely because I would not use things like Percocette and other script pain killers. I would just eat advil like crazy. I ended up giving myself a pepcid ulcer a couple times.
So after listening all your feedback and weighing it against my own habits. I think I will try the Tylonol, but only if I really need it.
I have a hot tub and I'll get the muscle rub stuff.
I was really surprised this morning when I woke up sore and realized I hadn't thought through the after VSG pain med thing. I managed without them today but I'm glad I now know for the future what I should take.
Thanks again for you feedback. You guys ROCK!

I second the epsom salts in a really hot bath before bedtime. I do it every night -- combined with a little baby oil, it keeps my eczema in check as well.
As far as the Ibuprofen vs. Acetominophen debate, I will say that for minor pain, I would go with the Tylenol. While NSAIDs are not totally contraindicated with VSGs, it makes sense that you wouldn't want to take something that is irritating and has the potential to cause ulcers in your sleeve if the Tylenol would work just as well. I would recommend taking two extra-strength Tylenol and see how well they work.
I think that Ibuprofen is okay once in a while, but I would try not to take it in high doses on a regular basis, because it can cause GI bleeding and ulcers, even in a normal stomach.
