Nuts?

I have been told that the various nuts out there have the "good" fat? I have seen a number of posts on here about people eating them,...I found a 1 oz bag of regular peanuts with 12 grams of protein!! but the fat content is high? Anyone eat nuts without any issues?

I have never seen a 1 oz bag of nuts. A serving is one ounce, but are you sure there's only one serving in the bag? 1 oz of nuts is very little.

I ate nuts throughout my loss, because I wasn't getting any fat in my diet.

As I said, nut serving sizes are very tiny and they're very high calorie. I never ate more than an ounce and usually less until I started to go into maintenance recently, and then I did it as a way of upping my calories.

Do you track your calories and fats? If, like me you're very low in calories and fats, a few nuts won't hurt, if not then beware. Do weigh them or find another way to carefully measure out one serving and put the rest away.

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

yea--it says 1 oz---I guess if I ever eat them  I will weight them to be sure....it is a very small bag--these were the 2/$1 up at the grocery store and I saw the protein and thought it would be something new.....

It depends.....can you control yourself?  I'm serious....nuts are a slider for lots of people and they are addictive.

Also....peanuts are not "nuts" technically....they are legumes and are much higher in carbs than other true nuts like almonds, pecans, pistachios, walnuts, etc.

I plan to have some nuts eventually but just make sure they are not a slider....they grind up very fine and can go right through you.

Funny you should mention nuts.  My daughter brought 2 small bags of roasted, unsalted cashews & almonds home from a farmers market.  I measured out a ounce of each and ate them, woke up this
morning and I was down a pound since yesterday.  Then I looked at myfitnespal log yesterday and
my calories were low & fat also for the whole day, so I guess they were ok.   BUT.. .I had no restriction eating them and could have probably ate much more.  So, yes be  aware of your daily
calories, fats, carbs for the day.

Hey thanks! I did not know that!! I was not really necessarily referring to just peanuts per say, but more less the "nut" category LOL....I usually can control myself well. I just need something to carry around in my purse in case I am out and have no other choices. Pistachios will work for me!
