Congrats!  Can you answer some questions... because inquiring minds want to know!

What was your start weight, goal weight, current weight?  How long did it take you?  What was your eating and exercise plan/habit?  What most helped you succeed?  Was there anything you'd do differently?

Highest weight was 328lbs. Pre op 297 GW 130 CW 143. The first 6 months the weight was coming off quite quickly, at six months I had lost 90 lbs. I hit 100lb loss at 7mth**** one-derland 9/29/07. What a feeling of achievement! Once I had obtained those two goals, it was easy street in my head. Although the doubts would kreep up in the back of my mind about keeping it off. As you all can relate, what was different this time? I had yo-yoed my entire life. I focused on consistency with excercise. It took me 15 months to reach my goal weight.

Up until this point I was walking on the treadmill 3-5 times a week, at various times of the day or night. At over 300lbs. lets face it its hard to move. The surprise came, that I began to develop more stamina and began challenging myself and worked my way up to walking on the TM 7d/W 45min every morning at 4:30am, jump into the shower and get ready for work. I didn't need to think is this an excercise day or not? (The treadmill is next to my bed, under the fan, T.V on the wall like a hospital room). That way I had no more excuses, and felt great all day " I had done my excercise." I was a single mom of a teenage boy, working full time and running a business. If I could do it you all can.

This changed in making me obtain my goal and maintaining it. I lost 185lbs. just walking. At times I could only handle 20min. But that's ok, just keep at it! I had struggled with exercise in the past, this was the most important trick on this journey. Trust me, I tested it. The times I would slack, I'd hit a plateau. Up 1- down 1/2, up 2 and get nowhere. Sound familiar?

Helped me succeed? Accepting the portion size of what I consumed, and trust me I was eating like a queen. Meaning I only put in my body the best quality of nutrition I could, cooked it as gourmet as I wanted, and felt like I could eat anything I want. Just a little! When you control the carbs, good fats and sauces don't need to be controled. At times I crave a piece of something sweet, I'll take 2 bites of cheese cake and I'm happy! The excercise is the key in keeping you loosing, even when you stray, if you allow the Sleeve to do its job. And that's ask yourself, what has the outrages amount of food I've consumed in the past done for me?
So now I walked around feeling like I could eat anything I want, just a little and I'm happy!

Do differently? Wish I had done it sooner. I'd researched the G/Pand was not comfortable with the procedure. When I learned about the Sleeve, mostly here just like all of you. This has become the answer to my prayers. The Sleeve is a gift! a tool, not a miracle. Its up to you, to make the most possitive out of it.

You're welcome! I'm glad it helps.

I couldn't have said it any better than you, in your signature. You have the key to success! Stick with it, and the scale will follow. Once the majority of the weight comes off, the protective walls come down, and you allow possitive things in. You get self confidence. Not arrogance! This sets you up to accomplish whatever you want. When you feel like a" normal human being" you stop obsessing about your looks. I still obsess about food. I love food, I just have a complete different perspective on it.

Happy Birthday and thanks for posting and sharing your experience, yes its wonderful to hear from someone so far out.  I have lots of questions but I will narrow it down to these;

Did you log your food thru your weight loss and if so do you still today?

Did you have a daily calorie and a carb limit during your 185 pound loss period, if so what #'s, did you try and stay under?

Did you have stalls, if you did, other then the exercise you mention, do you have any suggestions on how to avoid or break those?

How many calories, carbs and proteins do you think your doing every day now after all this time to maintain?

And Lastly do you still feel restriction with the amounts of food your eating these days?

Thanks for the info and best to you and your family....

I love technical questions!

Log is fitday.com. Yes it's imperative to log especially during weightloss. a few hard lessons learned. 3oz of S/F International delight in my strong coffee x 3 a day added up to 120cal per cup of coffee. Now I log on a different level. I mostly create custom food when I'm making a recipe like a Bolognese to get the stats then devide it by the number of portions to get an Idea of what I'm consuming in the cal dept. My BMR states 1200-1300 cal to maintain my 143lbs that's my guide.

No's during weightloss: I tried to keep it between 800-900 calories 60-80g protein, 20-40g fat 20-30g carbs.
Now, I use these proteins, fats, and carbs no's as a guide, calories are about 1200 to 1300 but thats just a product of the portions I'm eating. I use occasional days off, and occasional celebrations. The difference is I don't let it go past 2 days and man does your body let you know you screwed up! I'm an expert at under 200 calories snacks and that keeps me happy no matter what I want to eat. Remember your body craves nutrients. That's what you need to give it.

Stalls!

Make sure you don't fall into the grazing thing! it's easy to put things in your mouth during the course of the day this could be sabotaging your efforts. Plan snacks and listen to your body. It will tell you when it needs sustanance. Be consience of eating, stop, take time to have a seated meal. When you leave your meals with feelings of enjoyment and satisfaction, you're less likely to engage in mindless eating. No more eating at the corner of the counter while between the 100 to do things list. When you combine 3 meals with a snack or 2 all your needs as far as nurishment and pleasure associated with food are being met. Now work on something else.

Watch sodium, between 1000-1500mg a day in a stall. The rest you already know, increase water, increase activities. Don't skip meals at the very least have a protein drink if you can't get to a sit down. Bring snacks with you.

Restriction!
Has been turned into self dicipline/self respect. If I bake a tray of bread rolls, I'll do my damdist with the one roll that I will eat, the rest I make sure my family eats. Take it away! Now lets get back to my roll. I'll add onion flakes to turn them into onion rolls, then make a roastbeef and swiss cheese sandwich, lettuce and tomatoes with f/f mayo only because I'm use to it. If I'm out its regular mayo. Must have more veggies, so I'll make green beans salad along with that. No feelings of deprevation here. It feels great! It's important to invest the time to plan and eat a rounded meal. The alternative to that is a downhill spiral. If you eat a roll now before having put your plate together it will leave you empty. Before you know it you will eat 2 more and then eat the rest before the family gets home.

Thank you for letting me share my view!

That's such an awesome narrative, filled with experience and information, thank you for taking the time to write it.....  Several things I will take away that You reminded me I need do;  to log my salt intake and making every meal a special time, instead of TV or at the computer,  I have to work on that, otherwise, for me, I got a lot of confirmation on what I am doing, from what you say made you successful and that's very encouraging....  of course over the next weeks or month, I am sure we can benefit from you posting one of those "less then 200 calorie snack/meal" ideas you have mastered, every now and again, when you have the time...  Best to you and your family....
