I guess it depends on your definitely of chug. I drink normally at 4.5 months out. There's no way I could open my throat up and just dump 16 ounces down there; it'd fill up around 6 and come back up my esophagus. It drains pretty quickly in the pouch, though. I can finish a 16.9 bottle of water in a few minutes if I wanted to.

I'm 6 months out and the same way - I drink normally.  I can drink a 16 oz. glass of water in a few minutes most days.  I just 'listen' to my stomach and slow down if it's not happy.  It wasn't too long after surgery - probably a few weeks - when it all got easier.  Hang in there!

I am a week shy of three months out. I can drink a lot in a short time - 16 oz in 15 minutes - if I want to. But I don't think I could comfortably chug by taking big swallows.

What I do is probably weird or gross to some people:  When I'm working out I find myself taking a big, big mouthful of water and then swallowing it in two or three small swallows.  Bizzarre, I know, but it's become sort of a habit. Not even sure when or how it started.

Anyway it works for me and is what I consider my new form of chugging.

Hi,  and Congratulations on your sleeve journey! I don't find it weird or gross at all-although O am just over 2 weeks out I find that I do the same thing! I candrink more and easier than when I was first sleeved, but I still find that if I swallow too much too fast I feel it in my chest. Drinking this way helps me train myself to drink slower and still allows me to drink like I used to.

I am so glad I'm not the only one who does something like this! I started doing this when I first took to big a 'sip' of my water and then I didn't want to spit it out! Funny...

Kairk, I do the same thing with the water in my mouth. It's habit to fill my mouth with a lot of water...but then I don't want to gulp or swallow a bunch of air or be hard on my sleeve so I do it in a few swallows.

I am a month out and can drink 16 oz in 15 minutes. can I chug a whole water bottle with just a couple of breaks to breathe? No. lol

I can't. I can drink MUCH faster than immediately post-op, but I used to be able to down a 20 oz drink in like 5 minutes. Would be physically sick if I tried that now. But I can down it in like 1/2 hour.

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012
