I have been lurking here to glean knowledge and info about the VSG procedure for a few months now. As of this morning I got the call that insurance approval came through and my surgery date is set for March 23, 2012!  Needless to say I'm very excited and nervous at the same time.                      I also thought I would have to do a 2 wk liquid diet before surgery and found out on the call this morning I don't have to. I'm still going to because I need to lose 14 lbs. more before surgery if I can. Dr. Pirrello in Matthews, NC will be doing my surgery. I will try to post more often now. Thanks for listening.

Conicuts, I'm doing far better than I imagined I would. I have had zero pain, no soreness and no problems other than extreme nausea and dry heaves on the first night. I had a bit of nausea after my 2+ hour car ride home but that all left after I stopped moving in the car. I didn't realize before surgery that I have sleep apnea so that was a scary thing right after surgery. My breathing would slow to almost nothing and I even stopped breathing a few times after surgery in recovery. My mama was there to help me through and I'm fine now. Hopefully the sleep apnea will disappear with the weight.

As far as hunger goes, I'm not hungry at all. I didn't have to do a preoperative diet so I've only been without food since Saturday night. I'm sort of looking forward to the next stage but only because it will be a change, not because I'm hungering for anything.

I'm having an awful time getting in fluids. It hurts to drink much and in order to get the required fluids in, you're constantly sipping. I'm probably not getting half of the daily required amount of liquids in yet. I'll get there.

I'm also not on protein yet. My surgeon is supposed to start me on vitamins and proteins this week coming up. I go for my first postoperative visit on Monday and will learn more then.

Oh Michelle, so sorry to hear about your nausea. At least it didn' t last long.  I too am worried about feeling sick and just pray I don't. I also am hoping to not have to stay over night. I guess I will find that out on March 15. That is when I go to sign final paperwork and get instructions for surgery.

CONGRATULATIONS Conicuts! Like Michelle from Louisiana(I'm Michele from New York), I had nausea after surgery and most of the following day until the anesthesia was out of my system.  My insurance automatically granted me 1 night in the hospital and my surgeon requested a second night-I had no pain , soreness or fever, but after surgery you'll be glad to have at least 1 night to be monitored, etc. Best of luck on your journey, and for a smooth pain and problem free surgery and recovery- it really is life saving and life changing surgery!
