Survey- Did you have hunger post op?
So my question is:
- Did you have hunger post-op?
Nope, but I do get the "munchies" (head hunger) when my steroid kicks in each morning. I can tell when my tummy is empty, but it's not a hunger feeling, just a very slight empty sensation.
- If yes, when did it start?
So far, not yet at 10 months. Fingers crossed.
- Did it go away?
I seem to be an exception in that protein shakes do fill me up and keep me satisfied. I drink 2 a day and am as satisfied as if I'd eaten a meal.

I had no hunger at all for about 6-7 months post-op.
After that, it returned, but has always been much quieter than before surgery. It seems more like what other healthy, skinny people describe as their hunger, not the roaring, ravenous beast that lived inside of me before surgery. It is much easier to take care of this feeling. I am 2.5 years out and it's still the same.
In truth, I preferred it better when I didn't have any hunger, but this is manageable, as long as I remember to menage it. :) This is partly why I always tell newbies to maximize their early losing stage, it would be much harder for me now to lose significant amounts of weight.

- Did you have hunger post-op? NO real hunger , but had a lot of "head Hunger", stomach growling, but as time passed both have reduced. Head hunger is getting less all the time.
- If yes, when did it start?
- Did it go away? I am a bit over 3 months post-opt and still no hunger. it helps a lot and I feel lucky, fingers crossed that it stays this way.

Did I have post op hunger - NOPE!
I will be 3 months out on Wednesday. I still have not experienced real, physical hunger. At about two weeks out I experienced some cravings for two or three days, but was able to identify it as head hunger and poof! it went away.
I have regular stomach gurgles, but it's not hunger. I have a feeling I need to go on a PPI rather than the H2 I'm on. I don't have HB, but sometimes I know I've got a rumbly, acid tummy.
I do know when I need to eat. I get an empty feeling is the best way to describe it. Though, if I get busy, I can go hours and hours honestly forgetting to eat. I feel like a naturally skinny person when that happens!
I know not all people lose their hunger post op. I'm curious if it has to do with surgical technique and how much of the ghrelin producing section of the stomach is removed. Don't know, but I'd like to!

So my question is:
- Did you have hunger post-op? Yes!
- If yes, when did it start? As soon as I stopped throwing up in the hosp. about 24 hours after surgery.
- Did it go away? No. Still have it . I take a PPI . It isn't like hunger before surgery when I felt I could eat a house. I get hungry 2-3 hours after eating like we should . then eat a small amount and I am satisfied until the next time I need to eat.

So my question is:
- Did you have hunger post-op?
No -- I do not have hunger, per se. I get dizzy and 'empty' if I don't eat for extended periods of time, but not hunger. It's more of a low blood sugar kind of feeling than anything else.

I will occasionally feel 'hungry' after I start eating as a response to certain tastes. Tomato sauce, in particular, will trigger a strong 'hunger-like' feeling after I start eating it. I don't crave it. I don't really crave anything. I don't know whether it pops my blood sugar or it's purely in my head, but that's the only 'hunger' I feel. I avoid things like ricotta bake for that reason. I can eat a no-sugar added KLondike bar and tons of splenda in my coffee, etc, without the same reaction so it's not just 'sweet' that does it.
I wasn't an emotional or volume eater, per se, pre-op. My weight swings had a lot to do with medications, etc., but if there was something I could always chow down on it was Italian food. Apparently there's a magic combination of sweet, salt, acid, etc., in Marinara that my body really responds to.

Did you have hunger post-op?
No not even a little.
I looked at food the way I look at a book or the floor. I am a little over 2 months out and feel genuine hunger maybe once a day some days still not at all. I do have the struggles with head hunger but if I ask myself how does my stomach feel? It feels just fine. I get in all my water most days and take a sublingual PPI which my doctor recommends for a year post surgery.
