Hair loss

I'll be 6 months sleeved on the March 13th.  I noticed last month that I was experiencing some hair loss and now I'm noticing a lot of hair loss.  How long does this last?  Does the hair grow back?  I started taking Biotin but I'm getting really nervous.  I usually have a thick head of hair but it is visibly thinning out.   Washing my hair is scary.  I go for my 6 month check up and I'm having blood work done Friday.

There is nothing we can really do to prevent it but I, like you, take Biotin every morning.  I also wash my hair with Bosley professional care shampoo and conditioner that I can get from my hair dresser.  The most important thing is to make sure you are getting alot of protein.  My doctor said this is most important.  Dont' worry, mine lasted from three months till now and I was a year out on saturday but it is less and less all the time!

My hair loss started at 2.5 months and slowed down at 6.5 months. I am now in my 7th month and it has stopped! I do have a little bit of regrowth showing but not much. My hair was very thick and I now have bald spots on the top. It is very thin all over. I don't think mine will get thick again because of my age (57) but I really hope to get at least half of it back. I have been taking Biotin since the beginning. also.
Good luck on your journey!

Mine started right after surgery (actually a little before becauseIi was taken off my hormone replacement). At about 3 months out, I read something (sorry, I coudln't find it again) that talked about the importance of "real protein." I started working toward eliminating all protein shakes (I hate them anyway, so I was happy to see them go). We are all different, but the change for me was almost immediate. My husband even noticed that my hair loss had slowed. In all, I probably lost close to 1/2 my total hair.

My hair loss is now back to pre-surgery (I have very thick hair, curly hair and I've always had some hair loss). Baby hairs are coming in like crazy. I agree with the idea that our bodies can only handle a certain amount of protein at one time and as with vitamins and other nutrients, we need to spread protein throughout the day. A protein shake that has 30 grams of protein is great but if your body can only process 15 grams at a time, the other 15 is a waste. Also, I believe that our bodies are made to process real protein and veggies better than processed foods.

That said, I do still eat a protein bar because I love it and if I need a protein shake, I drink one.

Everyone is different and I strongly suggest that you talk to your doctor, hair stylist, and anyone else you trust as an expert.

My hair loss also started around 2 1/2 months out. I could kick myself for always wanting less hair than I had. I'd always get my long wavy hair thinned out when I got a haircut to tame the wild hair I had. Then I recently cut it shorter (like in my Avi). My mom told me yesterday I have lost alot of hair. I signed & said yeah. But hey, I still have hair & I know it will eventually grow back. My hair loss is less and less now as time goes by, I'm not really worried about it. I'd rather have temporarily thinned out hair than be 80 pounds heavier any day!

I knew that hair loss could be a side effect but I didn't realize it could be that drastic.  When I talk to my nut and doctors they all say that I'm doing and eating the right things.  I don't  use powders or bars but I eat plenty of meat, fish, cheese, eggs and nuts, I recently started drinking V8 low sodium because I know I wasn't getting enough veggies and I'm trying hard to get the veggies in.   I take a multi vit plus the biotin.  I thank God I have a big head of hair, but you are right I can live through thinning hair not to be 52 lbs heavier.   I just hope it stops soon.  Thanks for the advice ladies.  Good luck on your continued journey!
