Upper GI...did you have one?

I just wanted to check with everyone to see if you had to have one or not before surgery. My Surgeon didn't order one. I'm kind of wondering why. All I have to do it CBC, Lipid Panel, Chest x-ray, and EKG. I'm kind of concerned. Isn't it part of the process??? IDK...people here talk about it so much...lol but I'm not a Dr.

Nope. Never did an Upper GI before surgery. Some doctors don't require it.

I never had to have an upper GI done either. It is just whatever each doc requires.

Mine didn't think I needed one because I managed my Acid Reflux with PPI's.

I had an Upper GI, an abdominal U/S, Full cardio exam and breathing chamber tests,Sleep study, full blood panels,psych eval, dietician consults.and a few other things.
You are lucky.Although,If I had not had all those things I would have never known about my hernia.They repaired that during my surgery also.
Mine was a 7 month long process. Good Luck!!

Whats with this chest xray, and ultrasound stuff? It has not been mentioned... I wonder if this will be thrown in at some point?

I am having surgery on 3/16. My doc didn't require an Upper GI or a chest x-ray. He did require labs and an EKG. I asked about the UGI, an was told they only require it if you have any symptoms that may indicate a problem.

Three years ago I had one done to rule out the possibility of a hiatel hernia. Something turned up on my xrays. Turned out I didn't have one. Anyway I chickened out and this time around I didn't need one.
