Under goal and still measure food

 Hi!  I am over 10 months out, and under my doctor and my own goal weight.   Now I am working my ways toward my dream weight and beyond :). I love my sleeve.

I hear so many people talking about the high volume that they can eat.... And many seem like they eat until they are uncomfortable?  I think that part of my success is that I measure out my food.  I eat no more than my 2-3 ounces of protein (2 ounces of most protein, 3 ounces of scallops) and up to .25 cup fruit/veggies, and stop before I'm done, if I'm satisfied (I'll say I'm full, but it's not like pre-surgery full).  I never have tried to see how much I can eat.  I probably can eat more, but I don't know why I'd try to?

Note, I still have my hunger, and eat every 3-4 hours.

Hey There! How do you measure your meat? Do you have a scale? I am not really sure how much meat I eat. When I eat, I always start with my protein and most of the time I get full right away and don't eat much veggies or anything else. I don't want to over eat because I am afraid that I will stretch my sleeve.

I weigh my meat on a scale.  I also weigh almost everything else!  Anything that comes in a container that has colories per gram/ounce I weigh :) For example, if my greek yogurt has calories per gram on it, I will actually weigh it instead of measuring it out...

That was the best advice I ever got: Measure your food and don't eat until you're stuffed, just satisfied!

Great advice...and great job, by the way! You rock.

Thanks!  You rock too.  We're awesome :)

What's funny... When I was in binge treatment pre-opp, they did not want me weighing/measuring/logging things, because it was part of my cycle of restriction/deprivation/overeating.  However, that same habit is super-useful after my VSG!  I can measure/log and keep my calories low, and NOT have that feeling of deprivation.  I'm really interested in seeing how this all works out for me in the long haul!  Only time will tell...

Nearly 3 years out and I never did not measure.  Its just a guardrail for me.  Other folks can do without, but its not wisdom, for me.

Success looks different for all sorts of folks, and maybe for some folks success means not having to resort to the stuff I need to do to keep up my investment (logging, measuring).  I have a girlfriend who logging just makes her insane - gives her flashbacks of days of obsessive calorie figuring and insanity - it does not work for her, but it does not HAVE to work for her.  For her, success is being able to maintain without flipping that obsessive switch in her head.  Success looks different for us all.

But that's where I think its important to know us, and how we function best, and how to keep our investments up.

I also never did not have hunger, and while its not the same as before, its still definitely hunger, and I eat every 3 to 4 hours also. I also take quite a few calories to maintain my hulky bulk :} so for me, its a also a function of being able to feed my muscles well for them to grow and thrive - and still keep a little breast tissue along the way :}

Right on girlie.  Way to know yourself!  That is another chunk of success right there !  (methinks!)

A very good point :)  We should each do what we know works for us...

It just drives me a little crazy when I see some posts or blog entries about people who are a couple months out, who are freaking out about being able to eat 2 slices of pizza and 2 wings in one sitting... Wondering why they aren't losing weight, wondering why they can eat more than others....  Well, I COULD eat that much maybe, but why would I try?

* Well, I COULD eat that much maybe, but why would I try?*

Stove-touching syndrome.  :}  I know because there are some things I am a notorious stove toucher about.  this stove it hot?  OUCH THIS stove is hot?  OUCH! This STOVE is hot? OUUUCCHH  this stove is HOT!?  OUUCHHH

Eiphany - Hey everyone - news flash THIS STOVE IS HOT!

*chuckle*

I try and curtail my stove touching tendencies to other parts of my life now.

Joyce Meyer said it great once when she said "some of us can take someone else's word for something, some of us need our cir****tances touched."

same same.  :}

My mother said: you can learn from other people's mistake. You don't have to make them all yourself.

Great Post!  I'm right there with ya!  I weigh everything on my digital food scale.  It keeps me honest and helps me to log accurately.  I too, still have hunger and eat every 3-4 hours.  You have done fabulous and "undereating" your sleeve and staying vigilant about weighing and logging has really helped you I am sure.  I know that it has definitely helped me.

Keep up the great work - you'll be at that "dream weight" before you know it!!!
