Sleep test
I'd go for the split-study if possible, if I were you! I can't imagine hooking up to all that stuff two separate nights. Mine was all in one night, first half of the night showed apnea, second half of the night was CPAP titration... I know some are done over two nights.
Either way, it's great to know if you do have apnea so you can begin treatment.

I've had 3 tests over the last 8 years but for your first one, the one for you initial diagnosis be sure to use it properly, as instructed all night long, the more you take the mask or pillow from your nose the more positive the diagnosis will be but if you have sleep apnea, you need to treat it, it can lead to heart disease and of course there is a serious risk to you, if you cant use your CPAP machine when you come off the intubation tube from surgery. Also if you have sinus problems or congestion be sure to us something to keep you cleared... My ins. companies test is now over three nights... what a pain but I love mine, I get a good nights sleep, every night because of my CPAP machine....and my sleep apnea is going away as i lose weight,,,yea.. good luck

If you know you'll have problems sleeping let your doctor know so they can percribe a sleeping pill...otherwise you'll have to do another study. There is also at home sleep studies if they offer them..they are much less expensive and it's less wires and stuff. I did the home study and they put me on an auto pap machine for the pressures. Worked great.

I had a terrible experience. I only got about 3 hours of sleep total the night I did mine and the room was so stuffy. Apparently, it was enough to monitor and determine I had mild sleep apnea and I don't have to go back for a 2nd night (thank goodness).

I was wondering about this, too. How does it work if you are someone who has to go to the restroom a lot at night? I probably go 2 or 3 times per night. That would be such a pain to have to hook me up to everything. Of course--maybe sleep apnea is why I wake so much.

The frequent waking up is often a sign of sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is like someone holding a pillow over your face while you sleep frequently and just long enough for your heart to start racing and adrenaline to flood your blood stream. Your brain finally triggers the "save yourself NOW!" response and rouses you out of sleep, often causing you to jerk yourself awake, gasping for air, or just waking you up feeling like you really have to pee or are extremely thirsty. My sleep apnea progressed in this way....gasping, panic. Then, as I had it treated with a cpap machine (which I tolerate fairly well), my response to the few apnea episodes I still get ( when I have a stuffy nose, mask comes off, leaks), have a more I-gotta-pee type of waking. If I go a full night without my mask, though, it's usually full on panic/gasping mode.
Im hoping when I lose the bulk of my weight and get under 300 lbs again, I will be able to free myself from my C-beast. I hope we all can. :)

I thought it was the worst expieece of my life. I can only compare it to being kidnapped and held against my will.
I am also a stomach sleeper and it was not comfortable. I kept pulling my mask off and "getting in trouble".
in the 8 hours I was there I probably slept a total of 2 and a half hours and they were not consistent. half hour here and 20 minuts there.
You have to ring a buzzer to go to the bathroom and all your wires go with you.
In the morning they asked me if I sleep like this at home. I was lik nooooo. I wake up maybe once to go to the bathroom and thats usually a half hour before my alarm goes off.
They didnt give me anything to help me sleep. If you arent going to have a sleep aide I suggest staying up the night before.
I also did mine on a Monday after work and then went to work on Tuesday. Needlss to say, Tuesday was a terrible day at work.

That sounds horrible! And to have to go to work the next day would really stink! So do they sometimes give you a sleep aid or would that interfere with the testing? I think I would have trouble sleeping like that.

thing was offered to me. I guess speak to your MD and see what they say. But I don't like medicine to beging with. Lots of them have the opposite effect on me. Give me benadryl or codeine and I am flying for days. I stay away from them if possible.
