I know I've been gone for a minute you guys and I'm sorry that this is a bit wordy (I just copied and pasted from my blog) but please read. Additionally, if you have experienced this problem could you PLEASE let me know what was the cause, even if it's in a private message....

SO.... I was chucking straight ahead toward surgery. Everything was completed, had a little over a month to go, I started dieting to lose weight before hand, had lost 10 pounds in a week, EVERYTHING WAS LOOKING GREAT! And then....

I woke up one morning and their was....sorry for the faint at heart....blood soaking my bed. Which still wasn't too alarming because I have irregular periods, but it was still strange because I had in fact been having a regular period. So I called off from work that day (luckily I did) because I was changing like every hour!

Then the following morning, I woke to the same thing and in addition to that, I felt something in my mouth. It kinda felt like I had bit the inside of my jaw, so I looked in my mirror and was HORRIFIED to see blood clots! I knew then that something was TERRIBLY WRONG.

To make a long story short, I went to the ER and they ran some test only to find out that the platelettes in my blood were a 1 when they are suppose to be 400! Because of my platelettes being low, It caused me to start bleeding out. I started getting dots under my skin, which were blood vessels breaking. I've NEVER seen something so STRANGE in my life!

I was admitted to the hospital, had transfusions, was bed ritten, OH, it was terrible. And MOST DEPRESSING AND DISHEARTENING overall is IN NO WAY CAN I HAVE SURGERY right now. I was absolutely crushed. To make matters worse, I still don't have an answer as to why my platelettes dropped. And to further worsen the situation, I have to be on a steroid called Prednisone for a few months to raise the platelettes. Let me tell you, THIS MEDICINE SUCKS!!!!! It has you feeling drugged all day! I also have to get my blood drawn EVERY WEEK. AND ON TOP OF ALL OF THIS PEOPLE, I won't be covered for FMLA till May SOOOOOO I have to push through everything and GO TO WORK!

But people..... everything happens for a reason. One of the MAIN REASONS that a surgeon REFUSES to touch, or even see a patient, is if that person has a clotting problem. I mean, the one thing that could stand in my way of surgery, the Lord placed in my way. In no way do I ignore signs, I see it and I accept it. In NO WAY did HE want me to do this now, it's just not my time.

I'm staying prayerful and asking the Lord to heal me. By Christ stripes I am most definitely healed. This is way bigger than this health problem. HE just didn't want me to do it and I hear HIM. They did reschedule my surgery for July but I'm not counting on it. The Lord is the captain of this ship. PLEASE people just keep me in your prayers...

P.S. People that are/were on Prednisone, could you PLEASE tell me about your experiences with it, the effects, what to avoid, etc.

I am so sorry for all that you are suffering :(  I hope that this heals for you quickly and they determine what is causing it.  I have taken prednisone on and off over the years, and just finished a round yesterday.  The only thing I notice is sometimes I eat more on it... in fact last week my calories were higher than normal and I didn't know why- completely forgot aboutt the steroids until I read your post.  Not crazy hunger or anything, but a propensity to eat a little more.  The only other think that I can think of is don't just stop it cold turkey- you have to wean yourself off of it, or at least that is always what my docs have me do.  I wish you well and am sending prayers your way.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I have MTHFR, it's a genetic mutation and the type I have effects my platelets. I had to take 60mg daily for the last 30+ of my pregnancy because my platelets dropped very low as well.

Prednisone will typically make you hungry, more thirsty, very moody, I was a raging psycho on it, couple that with 3rd trimester hormones, I was not a pleasant person.

Some people swell, I got the "moon face" as a lot of people's face swell up pretty big with steroid use.

Drink as much clear fluids as possible, eat as lean and clean as possible, and rest when and as you need it.

I hate steroids with a passion. My husband has decided he's going to go live in a hotel during my last month of this pregnancy because I am so horrible to be around on prednisone.

I am so sorry you are having to go through this! I am with you on this not being your time! I went through something like this last May......

I was set to get the lapband in July. But in May, I woke up with my hands and toes numb. Then on mothers day, I was put in the hospital and diagnosed with Guillian Barre. I was paralyzed for three weeks and was in physical therapy the entire summer! I was so very disappointed that I couldn't have my surgery but I knew God had a plan. In the mean time, I found the VSG and changed my mind to go with this over the band. I am now a month out with the VSG and  I so happy that I didn't choose the lapband and that I listened to the Lord!

I will be praying for you and thinking of you!
